What kind of problems have you had with your Fuso?

PS other recent failure wasn't Canter related. The glow plug in the diesel cooker failed. Next day delivery of replacement to mate in UK didn't happen due to post code not visible on address. After 5 weeks I removed old one and found nearest equivalent off the shelf in Norway.

What kind of problems have you had with your Fuso?

Hi John, the bad free wheel hub assembly was before I purchased the vehicle. I discovered it when the vehicle was stuck. Dealer in Queanbeyan did a meticulous job of sorting it (let me watch). You helped me work out the problem at the time. The wheel alignment was also meticulous at Big...

What kind of problems have you had with your Fuso?

one free wheel hub didn't engage first time out (vehicle had 90,000 km on clock). It had been previously assembled incorrectly. Currently replacing a collapsed top roller taper bearing on one kingpin. Signs of water inside the knuckle joint. I had a camber kit (eccentric outer race) fitted in...

    Water purifying

same approach as Edroid, avoid the obvious bad sources like garages in south east asia which recycle their water, the active ingredient in Chlorox (never heard of or seen it but know about other brands) is sodium hypochlorite which provides the chlorine. With really dubious water I like to...

    Camper heating

FWIW the car heater valves I used (like the ones in the eBay link) are simple ball valves. Just had the tails that the heater hose fits. I haven't added the choke type push/pull cables (can never remember the techie name for them) to operate as they are easily accessible. In operation I...

    Camper heating

yes, its a buffer tank to increase the volume and reduce heater cycling. Place in return line. Valves (as previous post) are standard after market car heater valves. Open/closed and balancing flow. From (Walkers) Auto One, and occasionally eBay -...

    Camper heating

yup, made my own tanks from sheets of polypropylene cut and welded. Break even on buying the plastic welding gear was three tanks. Just a 75mm coil of copper pipe (filled with sand while coiling). And a home made pp gland (I have a lathe) through the tank wall so there's no break or join in the...

    Camper heating

much the same, worked well in first build so transferred to Canter. I used standard car heater valves, one in each "leg". Schematic looks like a top and bottom pipe with everything piped between. Getting the heat from heater to camper has three "fan heaters", too little heat transfer and the...

Signed contract today for new FG

I tried thinking outside the box and failed .... sorry, I'd start looking at using some of the inside space, maybe a side ramp up to the front, or a rear ramp. Not sure how advanced your inside is, I used a bed lift to improve usable space, works a treat. Those wheels are heavy, cantilevering...

Insuring a Canter Campervan in Australia

my Canter is registered as a motorhome in Qld. Previous vehicle was a Coaster bus conversion. With seats removed it became a motorhome for registration purposes when it had a bed (mattress on floor) and a primus (multi fuel) cooker, also on the floor. Both less than 4.5 tonne GVM which makes...

    Oil Level Test Switch

thanks muchly, it helps enormously to have a clue what's in the circuit and how it works and roughly what volts to expect. Thinking back, the interior cab light stopped working about the same time - just replaced blown fuse for "room light". All working again now. Beats tilting the cab to...

    Oil Level Test Switch

my oil level test switch on FG649 stopped functioning a couple of days ago. There's plenty of oil showing on the dip stick. I used to hear a click as the test light changed to green. But alas no more. Zilch. So far I've checked the switch (it works ok with zero resistance when pressed)...

    Fuso FG Bilstein 5100 shocks

something not quite right or I am missing something. When I measured my standard FG, including the gap to the suspension stop, then compared measurements to the shockie spec, there was simply not enough movement. I didn't get as far as thinking about big bumps. They would bottom out before...

    Fuel Consumption

litres/100km for FG649E over 30,000km (47 tanks full) is the orange line. Slightly higher fuel consumption around fill 20 was due to a hard to find fuel leak.

What do you have in your cab?

don't forget the grab bag with PLB and a few survival essentials. Move the cigarette lighter socket so the GPS plug doesn't get tangled in the 4wd gearstick and blow the lighter fuse. A radio which accepts a USB stick (though after listening to our entire music collection several times we...

    MAXTRAX and the FG mitsi

I used them once to help a bogged ovlerloaded Mongolian 6 tonne truck up the 1m soft mud bank of a river exit. I pulled he drove. Easy to get under wheels and line up. Good traction. They are still flat. What more can I say - they did the job.
