Diesel vs gas engine for camping and General purpose

We got a smoking deal on our 2004 smb with a v10. The comparable vans with a 7.3 were $13-15k higher, and most had a lot more miles. We debated it, and decided when the time came, we could have a crate motor installed, eat the difference in fuel economy, and still come out on top in total $...

    2004 Sportsmobile rear axle swap

It’s going to be around 9000 lb more or less loaded and wet. Thank you for reminding me about the VSS. I trust your judgement as you have a lot of experience with things like this. If failures are rare, I’d rather leave it be.

    2004 Sportsmobile rear axle swap

It’s 4wd. The lugs currently match on front and rear with no spacers. 8x6.5. The Sterling is a different pattern.

    2004 Sportsmobile rear axle swap

My SMB has a SF Dana 60. I’m trying to decide if it would be worthwhile to swap to a full float axle. I’ve considered a Sterling, but then you get the issue of mismatched lug bolt pattern, and I’m really not a fan of spacers. I think a 14 bolt would take care of that, plus it has the additional...

Fiamma F45 or ARB awning on SMB. Rain gutter brackets??

I think the problem with most rv’s is the awnings are simply mounted to the wall with no backing plates since there is no access to the space in the wall. I can’t see the wind being able to rip off good quality gutter mounts. Now the awning could be destroyed, and possibly beat the side of the...

    New to us SMB

Another update. This guy is brilliant!!! The spot on the door had already been highly reinforced since it was part of the original spare tire mount, so he repurposed it. There has been more gussetting done since these videos, and levers will be added to the latches so they’re not a pita to reach.

Fiamma F45 or ARB awning on SMB. Rain gutter brackets??

1der on the Sportsmobile forum sells the correct brackets for an E series. Awning is personal preference. I’m going with an EEZI-AWN 2000 series 2.5. A bit more than fianma, but it’s hell for stout!

    New to us SMB

He's doing quite a bit of work for me. His price for all of it is reasonable, but I don't know exactly what the exact price is for just the bumper. You could contact him at deviantcustomsllc@gmail.com. His name is Jared Bratcher. I know he saved all the CAD files for it.

Front bumper is looking good. Locking storage is large enough for the winch and recovery gear. Rear bumper will have large locking storage too.

    E250 van rear bumper

I’m having custom front and rear steel bumpers built at this time. Front looks like it will be around 145-155 lb. Rear will have dual swing arms with a tire on one, and box and dual bike rack on the other. They both have lots of storage, and I’ll post pics when complete . Jared at Deviant...

    Warn or Superwinch--Need advice.

Superwinch fan boy here, but not knocking Warn at all. I ran a Talon 9.5 on my FJ. Very fast pulls, and would run under water. Never failed under several really tough pulls. I recently purchased a 12.5 Talon with synthetic line for our Sportsmobile. I went with it because of experience we...

Falkor: 1995 Ford E350 Hightop Wheelchair Build

For the third person sleeping option, you might check out the stretcher style beds they use in the top area of Flippac campers. They’re comfortable , come down easily when not needed, and shouldn’t be too expensive. You have plenty of room in the roof to use one. Stretcher bed may be the...

    Our SMB

Ours is a V10, and we did get a very good deal on it. We shopped for about 9 months online before this one popped up. The tires are 33" Duratracs on 17" wheels. The only way to really get a great deal on a SMB is to be prepared to buy immediately. If you have to wait for financing to...

    Our SMB

I thought we’d document the changes we’re making to our van. It’s a 2004 E350 Quigley 4x4 Sportsmobile. We sold our FJ Cruiser to buy this since we’ll be traveling full time after retirement. It was in great condition when we bought it, but some areas needed beefing up. This was it the day...
