I decided to build my own Pop Top camper

Had an amazing weekend camping out on the Olympic Peninsula. This is the first time i've been out with all the new changes. My question for the collective whole is how do I insulate the metal framing so that it does not condensate? I was thinking of using some left over 2" wide VHB tape to...

That's what it feels like. I'm now waiting on a set of 80# ones. It also doesn't help that I don't know the weight of the roof.

I decided to build my own Pop Top camper

This weekend I was able to finish the interior ceiling. I also got the new struts installed, but alas they are way to strong. I had 80# struts in the front and they did not seem strong enough so I went big and got 130# struts. It was too big. I'll go down to 100# struts and if that doesn't work...

I decided to build my own Pop Top camper

I've had a decently productive evening. I had already roughed out the ceiling panels so it wasn't much to finish them to get them installed. I will admit it isn't the prettiest work, but finish work has never been my forte. I just don't have the patience for it. I am more of a function over form...

For some reason it is letting me throw in the link. I got it on Amazon. It's called 3M Thinsulate SM600L.

Insulation is all done. I even had time to swap out my old winch cable for a new synthetic line.

I decided to build my own Pop Top camper

Back to the regularly programmed build. Finally got out of an apartment and into a house and now have my own driveway. This weekend I started the process to insulate the roof. I am using 3M insulation and at a 1" compression I think the R rating will be around 7 or 8. I ran out of glue...

My DIY OVRLND-style Pop Up Camper

Looks good. I'm thinking i should've gone with the struts on the side as well. What weight did you go with?

Gladiator Pop-Up Pass Through Camper Build

Love the build!! Sorry if I missed it How are you going to keep the bed and cab solid so they do not flex separately. I personally did not know how much my Tacoma bed flexed compared to the cab until I had my camper mounted and could see the camper move around.

I'll be taking a few weeks off from the build to move, but before I go here are some obligatory photos from this past weekend camping trip.

I decided to build my own Pop Top camper

Finally after a week of being out of the garage it finally rained. I am happy to report that none of the 37 holes I made in my roof are leaking. I didn’t think they would, but I always plan for the worst. Also I am happy to say the solar works great and I may be able to put off getting a new...

I decided to build my own Pop Top camper

I've got the new wiring all sorted out and everything is working great. This past weekend my goal was to get the roof insulated and that was an epic failure. I decided to go with 1/4" Luan Plywood and when I went to rip the boards to their final dimensions I did some awful math and shorted the...

I decided to build my own Pop Top camper

Last night I got the new electrical system in and tested. It is charging the house battery with the alternator. Once I have the ceiling done I will take it out of the garage and test the solar portion. I still have to install the battery temp and voltage sensors and put an inline fuse in the...

I decided to build my own Pop Top camper

Alright today is the day. I am waiting on one Kill Switch and the bus bar to complete my new electrical setup. I attached a sketch of what i'm going to be doing. Someone who has some experience please tell me if I am missing anything. I know it'll work, but perhaps it could be better. Hopefully...

I was poking around on their site earlier. I might try wood and see what happens. I'll probably screw it in place so if I do have issues it will be easy enough to look and fix later. I do see lots of builds using wood so I guess I can too.

That is good to know about the 1/2". My biggest issue is there is no real support on the edges because of how my frame is made.

I decided to build my own Pop Top camper

I'm wanting to stay away from wood for two reasons. Weight and I live in the PNW so moisture is always an issue. I'll look into carboncore.
