It's going to be a nightmare of maintenance for little gain. And a ton of dead weight to haul around. Whatever fuel it saves your main engine, you lose due to the weight of the thing.
Just run your main engine and use your alternator. Try adding a solar panel if you'd like. IME...
If I'm after a plush SUV for mall crawling, why wouldn't I buy a cheaper Cherokee, Subaru, or Blazer instead?
Assume that I'm not a drug dealer or gang banger.
I think their normal stuff is mostly custom. Measure your flatbed for a box, tell them where you want the door.
I'm going to do some more research. If I build my own......I might prefer the flatbed model. I'm excited either way. The camper shell is the hard part for me to do well from...
Pizza is best. Hot dogs cook well in the panini sized irons. If your fire is too sketchy for a stick, or don't want to wait for coals.
Try buttered bread, chocolate, gram cracker, marshmello.
Also we'll pre-cook egg whites and ham. Reheat inside the bread with swiss cheese.
Bread...
Swiss army knife? I can do way more with a fullsize. SUV's are just four door cars that can go off road a bit. All I have to do is get past the firm ride, which is 100% in your head. And the size, which is just a skill level thing most of the time. It's my daily driver.
Fullsize +'s...
Are you insinuating that a motorhome is a good overlander, with a good tow rating?
I'm not going to tow a Jeep behind a landrover or a Bronco. If I'm going to tow a Jeep, I'll tow it with a fullsize, not a Defender.
The only trailers I've seen a midsize or less go overlanding are those tiny...
Would have to be the flat bed model for side entry. I've never seen that on a pickup.
My rear entry area would be a full width shower/bathroom. So dust/dirt entry there is no big deal. My work truck sees ten times more dust than a camper, and it's lame rubber door seals are working ok...
That sounds great. Quality of windows, doors, and walls are way more important to overlanders, not so much to the rv crowd.
I hate how campers have cooktops, ovens, microwaves, TV's, radios, etc. I don't need any of that, and it's all very heavy.
That's all true. But I'd struggle to justify a really nice box of foam and plastic panels for more than $15k.
I'd consider it. The TC boxes that I've seen are very nice. I'd love to have a camper based on that. Curious how they reinforce it around the jacks.
1-2. For mid sized pickups, yeah, I'd want a short camper that does not overhang the rear bumper. The rear tailgate secures nothing. So I'd rather see no tailgate, and a nice door. It's easier attaching steps to the camper, than using a step bumper or whatever. Climbing onto the...
Agree. Jeep could seriously improve with no effort at all, and very little cost. (I'm available by the way Jeep, make an offer).
Better axles and Rubicon available on everything, especially the base. Fire everyone that made the interior of the Jeeps. Hire a 5' tall Women, and a 7' tall...
Beef the Blazer. One ton axles and lockers. Bushwacker Cutout fender flares. Install a bed in the back to sleep. Outlaw black inside and out. Add a rear bumper tire carrier. I'd even consider RV rooftop AC and a generator box mounted on the rear bumper. For camping. Windows...
