GoAntenna Cell Antenna - Anybody using or seen these?

The Beartooth does PTT, Text, and Mesh. It also uses 1 watta on 902-928Mhz https://www.beartooth.com/ Originally the Beartooth was being developed to allow you to use your cell phone to talk to other radios such as FRS/GMRS or 2m ham. I think they were having a bit of a problem getting the FCC...

Clean looking vertical surface VHF/UHF antenna mount?

Good call on the mount there HH, I should have remembered that. Here is an antenna: Workman DB-1 https://www.k1cra.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=WORKDB-1 Firestik makes a 2m antenna with 3/8x24 mount but it looks like a CB antenna.

Dedicated APRS Mobile With a Radio Shack HTX 212

I run a similar setup using a Mobilinkd and a Yaesu FTM-3100r. I too had to make a cable but it was easy and I had everything but the TRRS connector but Mobilinkd sells them pretty cheap. I built my mobile radio setup a little at a time and a dualband radio with APRS built in was out of my...

Clean looking vertical surface VHF/UHF antenna mount?

About the only thing I have seen is on taxi cabs where they use a NMO mount through the side of the fender and bend the whip to be vertical.

    Dualband radio for GMRS use?

Agreed, as long as you have the channels, power, and bandwidth set correctly nobody would know. Heck the Midland MXT-400 GMRS radio looks just like a Boafeng BF-9500 UHF mobile and a lot like the TYT TH9000D so even just glancing at it someone may not be able to tell the difference.

    Dualband radio for GMRS use?

Is it possible to do? absolutely. Is it legal to do? No, GMRS radios (and radios for virtually all radio services) have to meet certain criteria and be type accepted by the FCC. Some radio services including GMRS/FRS and CB have a stipulation that the radio may not be capable of operating on...

Let me show you how little I know....

Hmmm...that's interesting. I am kind of glad to see that honestly. I know it doesn't do much for you but it is nice to see they are trying to keep illegal radio use off the ham bands.

    Kenwood TM-D710G Install - Advice?

I can't respond to the vehicle specific questions, but will comment on 2 things. Control head mounted on A-pillar: I steer with my left hand and shift, adjust the radio, hold the mic, etc with my right so I do not think that I would like having the control head on the left of the steering wheel...

Standalone APRS mobile system using a Maxtrac mobile radio

I am running a 2m for voice and have not noticed any desense there but I do have some on my stereo. I am running 30 watts on APRS. My APRS antenna is on the passenger rear corner, Stereo antenna on passenger front fender and 2m antenna on drivers front fender. After my project XJ is built both...

Standalone APRS mobile system using a Maxtrac mobile radio

I run a Mobilinkd connected to a Yaesu FTM-3100R and it works well. When I move it over to the Jeep I am building I too will wire it similar to your description above. I had go make my own cable to plug into the mic jack and the external speaker jack of the radio but it was not hard at all...

Let me show you how little I know....

Yes sir. I understand that the easy Tech test scares people away from ham radio so I have tried pushing the idea of GMRS with the local groups I run with, but so far most are content with CB so now I usually just run around with the fellow ham Jeepers.

Let me show you how little I know....

My problem wasn't if my CB antenna was set up correctly it was that in most cases it was the other person that had the poor set up. You know the whole only as good as the weakest link deal. I led a convoy of 75 Jeeps and though me and the tailgunner could talk on CB we much preferred 2m, I...

Let me show you how little I know....

I think this is something they changed within the last year or two. I do recall them advertising their radios to include ham radio frequencies. I am sure the CHIRP software could open it back up.

Let me show you how little I know....

I would be more inclined to believe that RR locked the ham frequencies out. It's simply part of the software used to program the radio, I can do it on my baofengs too. To be honest I am surprised that RR would do that though since they seem to thumb their nose at the FCC. I have already provided...
