Trying to decide on RTT...need help.

Hi Nate, Just as a bit of background, I have a little experience with a few tents having spent a good bit of time in an ARB, a Howling Moon, and I own a Columbus. Something to consider is whether it is easier to take a tent on and off a rack, or leave your tent mounted to your rack and take...

Anyone Use An Insulation Barrier With A RTT?

Thanks Corey, I'd never heard of that. Let us know how it works.

Anyone Use An Insulation Barrier With A RTT?

Are you two talking about the winter hood?

Dare to be Different - I need your HONEST help!

The Subaru Legacy/Outback problem isn't size, it is that first gear is way too tall. Also the clutch is weak. If am I going places where I have a lot of graded dirt roads I'll take the Subaru, but in anything the slightest bit technical (i.e. where more speed isn't the answer) or uphill, it...

Dare to be Different - I need your HONEST help!

Skip the Subaru if you are planning to take it off pavement in Colorado. The gearing just doesn't work. If you can find an old Subaru Loyale (the wagon before the Legacy), that might be better. I would vote for a Suzuki Sidekick. If you do the math, I'm guessing it would be cheapest to keep the...

Carbon Neutral Expedition - CNE I (Spring 2010)

Occasionally, yes. We were asked to drive support vehicles for a friend who is putting together a moto trip nearly identical to what Andre posted. It would be fun to hook up with you guys again.

    AEV 2.5" JK suspension released!

Has anyone tried the Rock Krawler 2.5? I'm really curious how it compares to the AEV 2.5.

The Expeditions West Tacoma—a World-Class Overland Truck—is for sale

5.29 gears don't make much sense on paper, but they seem to take some of the weight off this truck.

    Maggiolina or Columbus

Interesting. I think I'll stick with my Columbus ... or a Howling Moon. Howling Moon has a new tent that I am curious about. It is very similar to the Columbus, but with the Howling Moon canvas and mattress, which I think are much nicer than what Autohome uses, but it also results in a much...

    Maggiolina or Columbus

I think the Maggiolina is a much nicer tent than the Columbus. The Columbus weighs a little less (double check that) and sets up/packs up a little faster and easier, which is nice. A small Columbus is a much smaller tent than an ARB. If you liked the size of the ARB you might consider a medium...

    Frontier fragile front diffs

Good to know. I know a lot of early UZJ100 owners used the ARB to strengthen the front diff on those.

    1st Gen 4runner + Flip-pac

I would strongly encourage you both to call West/Gougeon and explain to them what you are doing, and the loads and forces involved. I think you would be much better off going with Pro-Set over standard West 105/207 resins as you will need something with some elasticity in it. Gougeon has lots of...

    "Skinny" Tires...

Where people get into handling trouble is putting too narrow of a tire on too wide of a rim. Sure, 235/85 is a great size, but not on an 8" rim. Also, I think wider tires feel better in off camber situations with a top heavy vehicle.

Best overall tire suited for Overlanding/Expo?

I don't know of a truly all around tire. It is all about compromise and priorities. That said, I have been quite pleased with the Goodyear MT/R Kevlar tires.

    ARB Locker for the R180

I'm intrigued by this as a Frontier is one of the vehicles I'm considering and the front diff issue gives me reason to look at a Toyota instead. I had a WD21 Pathfinder at it was a great truck, but the new Nissan's don't seem to be built to the same level.

    Lightroom 4 Beta

Pat, come find me at Overland Expo and I'll walk you through it. I use Lightroom as my home base, but also do a lot of work in Capture One and Raw Photo Processor. It is really a question of how good is good enough? If the image has to be perfect, it gets processed either in C1 (people) or Raw...
