Awesome build thread. Thanks!
I found a Knap Kap and am going to mount it on my M101A2. Muahahahahahaha!!! Your madness has only begun! You're gonna think that you're gonna need a straight jacket before too long. Ask me how I know.
I have a bunch of questions for you, hope that is OK. Jesus...
The answer to the step question is a resounding "NO."
At least as far as something formally manufactured. You can't touch him for anything less than 100 bucks.
I'll probably stick with a short stepstool.
Hmmmmm...
That's interesting. I've been thinking about that as well.
I'm going to have to fiddle around with any inherent stability concerns. Maybe something that stabilizes on the ground...
I had an accident today. As I was walking by the back of my trailer carrying my hand grinder, I tripped, and this happened:
When this is finished, I'll be able to access the back of my trailer through a modified roof top tent annex.
That is the most overengineered-appearing M416 that I've ever seen.
Did I mention that I like overengineered? :)
I'm going to stop by the local trailer shop after dropping the kids off tomorrow morning.
If it has the common sail track that most do, then yes. Mine (and, assuming, all) have a zippered track on the front top that makes attaching/detaching stupid simple.
For what I'd spend to have fenders fabbed up I could probably re-axle both trailers.
PM sent to Pat - thanks, Mark!!! I'm going to totally steal your adjustable channel hitch idea as well.
Time to shed some unneeded tonnage off these beasts. (And then sell the 2 pairs of adaptors)
I hope to...
Decision"s made: out with the old surge and in with the new electric. I'm tired of scrounging for spares.
I'll source this to the crowd:
Who has the best prices for the best gear?
What is it exactly that I do need to completely replace the axle and brakes?
Conventional axel swap versus...
The black cover might work well in Indiana, but here n Florida you'll need oven mitts to get within a foot of the thing at noon in August.
I painted my covers to match my trailer, anyway.
Thanks, Mark. Now I have this to torture myself with. :)
If I do that with one, I might as well do that with both. And go your route.
At least I won't have to continually scramble for spares
It's actually an M101A3 bed (U-bolts, fore & aft bracing) but minus the fender extensions on an M116A3 chassis; part of the army's famous trailer salad. You can see the axle in one of the pics.
I've scoured Steel Soldiers, too - no joy. As I'm not that good a welder/fabricator, I have to...
I've been thinking of that very thing - "filling the corners." It would be too much to hope to find more of the same material - unless anyone here has an idea...
I'm looking to create a de facto "batwing" awning effect, although I think I'd have to get the sewing machine & seam sealer out if I...
Crap. Now I have to go look it up. Stand by...
Naked tires are illegal in some states.
Besides, I think it rather impolite to chuck mud & rocks at my trail brethren.
Serenity's sibling, whom I've dubbed "Firefly" got new shoes:
Materials:
Now, I've done it...
I guess the question now is, do I extend the fenders, or do I replace the axle?
Granted, with the track of my trailer this wide now, it will be more surefooted then a billygoat wearing...
Has anyone tried substituting ratchet straps to replace the cover straps? I see the cover on my Tepui billowing & flapping around in my sideview mirror - all that movement has to create a pressure differential inside the folded tent that could pull in moisture into the tent.
I cut the rails back on my Autana - no structural issues - if that gap insults your asthetic sense of order in the Universe just grind the top of the rail down just enough to "fix" it. It's just aluminum.
- Please understand the above was not a personal shot - I speak from personal experience...
