Have the frame checked. I was in a much less series front collision, only bent one of my ARB's crush cans. Afterwards I kept cupping front tires, even rotating at 2500 miles. When Toyota replaced my frame the cupping went away.. clearly it damaged it. Otherwise I say make it into an EXPO rig...
I say as good a dSLR as you want and a kit lens for the focal length needed. For hiking, I leave all my prime lenses at home and carry a 18-105 and 70-300, the lenses are not super durable, but light and cheap enough to replace if needed. . I wanted to share one experience to explain my choice...
I don't have a picture, but I tuck netting around the bar in the middle of my FP. Makes it easier to work/cook/etc on the tailgate and rear of bed. I used to velcro it around the tailgate/liftgate, but this works better.

As I understand it, the hinge goes into a square tube where it is bolted from the inside. I think you have to open to get to the bolts...

I have camped in the Great Lakes are a lot - I tried the DIY ac and didn't think it did much at all - I was happier a 12 inch fan blowing over me. If I am camping in a CG, I use a box fan, if primitive, then 12v fans. They have not killed my start battery when used over night yet.
