I always enjoy your writeups and the pictures are just awesome. Thanks for taking the time to share them all with us! So great to see these areas "through" your eyes.
You might check the 3M tape - some of the adhesives are pretty strong, but I get your point 100%. I don't know enough to say whether it would or wouldn't hold so I should probably sthu. :)
I like this idea but instead of sewing what about double sided tape (3M and the like) to attach the Velcro- both to the tarp and the mosquito netting? Seems like for the tarp anyway better as no holes from sewing (and easier!)
Thank you for the comments. I can definitely see how my ignorance to what is definitely designed for a specific use versus what "seems" to be the same will lead me to a verydifferent result. As with a lot of things I have already found out the hard way what doesnt work well....this will help me...
I see Wirefy makes both crimp type and solder type, with the waterproofing. I have read lots of items here and elsewhere about the pluses and minuses of soldering v. crimping. I think the appeal of soldering for me is due to my crappy experience(s) with the simple crimping versions I did years...
Saw these for the first time today and they seem like a pretty good idea, and (important for me!), idiot proof....
Simply slide the wires in to the connector and heat. Melts the solder as well as the waterproof ends. I'm curious if anyone has used these before and what your results were? I know...
Cool. Thanks for sharing- it's good to see some of the competitors to Maxtrax work as advertised. Ensures that the products will continue to get better. I've not pulled the trigger on any of these yet but I can see the merit for something lightweight and easily stackable etc to my planks. ;)
I had a spare on my 79 Chevy back years ago. 40 gallons in the bed. I just wired/plumbed a switch and line between the stock line to the elec fuel pump (i had pulled the mechanical pump for an electric). I didn't bother with the guage. I only used it on trips but would drive it empty then switch...
This is a great thread and I'm glad it has been "revived".
I am with those who have gone back to stock/OEM air filters from the K&N Oiled. It took me a while to "get it" but now I do. Yes, if I had a 1000 HP engine that needed HUGE amounts of air flow to power it then a less restrictive air...
Awesome write up! Loved the pictures and your approach to everything. I did some of the same trails with the family about 12 years ago, but being in a stock Yukon we didnt do as much as you by a long shot!
Cool seeing the ones we did do through your eyes. Ironically when we were at Lake Como a...
Really awesome job! Its great to see how it all came together. So cool for your son and for your Dad (and obviously you as well). Looks like your boy handled it all really well! Well done. And great pictures- really nice seeing it all.
expeditionsierra- nice looking ride! You may want to read some of the studies on the K&N's. Needed if you're putting out 1000 HP or something to get enough air through. But for stock engines they may not be the best thing. I got rid of mine in my Yukon. Don't take my word for it but you may want...
Can you slide the camper back any? I don't know the impact of that. But if so this might fit?

Barring that maybe you can find a mfr to make you one? I don't imagine it would be cheap but might be worthwhile?
I love the idea of a small trailer. Maybe a CL find or even put a note here and on CL to rent one. I bet you find it for far less than $1,000. Heck I'd give you my utility trailer to use for a week but I'm in MA.
I just had a thought for the boy....take away the gameboy and give him a digital...
Ditto the "when are you going comments" as weather will be important. I would look at the daily highs and lows and then assume 20 degrees colder as a buffer (being cold is a lousy way to spend a night and with a smaller vehicle not easy to just jump in the vehicle to sleep if it gets cold)...
