    No commentary needed....

Thats good to hear! Again, there are no feelings associated with this (for me), I'm truly interested in how well it's built mechanically based on feedback just like that. Will be interesting to see what the specs are once guys start digging a bit deeper....

Lexus GX550 Overtrail vs. Grenadier or new Toyota Land Cruiser?

Time will tell - but I think we can all agree, based on my previous post, that if the LC250 ends up with same drivetrain as a std. Tacoma / 4R (with the smaller rear axles) that will be very disappointing. At that point it's a "Landcruiser" in the same sense a GX460/470 is, which is a huge...

    No commentary needed....

That goes for more than just seats - I've heard people boast about the axles being "Carraro" which is somehow synonymous with quality, same concept, all manuf. make good high quality stuff and price-point crap...name brand means little.

Lexus GX550 Overtrail vs. Grenadier or new Toyota Land Cruiser?

Per my previous post - that is not necessarily true....many things are the same, "architecture" is the same but sub components / assemblies may be different as we know at least the rear axle is not uniformly shared. In the case of the Tundra, it has a sim GVWR to the LC so it's...

Lexus GX550 Overtrail vs. Grenadier or new Toyota Land Cruiser?

I've been around them for ~30 years too.....it's a course correction as long as it's not a "LC" body using the same drivetrain as a 4R....aka Prado(ish).

Lexus GX550 Overtrail vs. Grenadier or new Toyota Land Cruiser?

Regardless of payload / capacities the design philosophy with the LC's were always use larger components than necessary which was always a nod to the design intent. It was always understood LC's were "underrated", may have same payload on paper as a 4Runner but build quality, components size...

Lexus GX550 Overtrail vs. Grenadier or new Toyota Land Cruiser?

Which generally aligns to what I posted - that was an excerpt from somebody's post, not my data. Just bringing up that that a LC250 = GX550 = Tacoma = 4runner is not correct, same global platform but potentially very different sub-components. Obviously if they are upsizing the locking diff on...

Lexus GX550 Overtrail vs. Grenadier or new Toyota Land Cruiser?

It's worth noting, hearsay as of now but worth thinking about, from the dudes on IH8mud, there seems to be some running gear differences between the LC250 and GX550 (along with other models), numbers below reference R&P size in inches: "The hybrid Tundra (and maybe Sequoia) get the 10.7. The...

good theory as to how it missed the mark.

I've brought that up too, trust me, I get it. Same can be said on the opposite end, light duty parts on a HD rig, regardless of how 'reliable' they are, will lack durability. But - it's hard to test reliability, especially on a new rig, but we do have some good metrics to test durability based...

Lexus GX550 Overtrail vs. Grenadier or new Toyota Land Cruiser?

I'll stick with Ram for towing but it's to replace the misses 2018 X5....it's on "Order" aka we told the gal we wanted one and told her our preferences but I think they get what they get. We decided on the std. Overtrail, with a few color preferences....should be cool! We need to kick the...

good theory as to how it missed the mark.

Maybe not drastically different but the "LS" engines used in cars are generally a bit different than the "LS" engines used in trucks. Same can be said for the 2.3L EB used in the Ranger vs car, it got additional forged parts and upgrades to handle added stress. I'm not a SBC expert but I know...

good theory as to how it missed the mark.

The 100% stronger is what I'd argue with - we know other vehicles of sim size that are both reliable and durable. Jeep for instance used D60 axles (at least on the back) on it's military spec Jeep and have gone to a "Full Float" hybrid design on new Jeeps. The ROW LC 60/70s and domestic 80's...

Lexus GX550 Overtrail vs. Grenadier or new Toyota Land Cruiser?

I wouldn't be too sure about towing: 1) Toyota; 278 hp / 317 tq (326 hp / 465 tq combined w/electric) 2) Lexus; 349 hp / 479 tq 3) IG; 286 hp / 332 tq The Toyota and IG are very close and not in the same league as the Lexus depending on how much emphasis you wanna put on the electric / hybrid part.

Lexus GX550 Overtrail vs. Grenadier or new Toyota Land Cruiser?

We voted with our $$'s and decided on a GX550 - proven track record, fairly robust platform and we have a local Toyota dealer and I'm not worried about the drivetrain in the Lexus.

good theory as to how it missed the mark.

I've said that for years - you have downstream effects and now your 'fuse' is your Tcase or Trans, not good. But like I said above, if you believe they designed this properly, axle specs are an EXCELLENT data driven, quantitative thing that we have a lot of data to compare with that point to...

good theory as to how it missed the mark.

I don't take it 'personally', this isn't a right vs wrong necessarily, I just think it's strange that people give it a pass without knowing specs, we need to get to a quantitative discussion. And they put SBC's in 3/4T pickups too along with the 292 straight 6 in sedans....in cross over...

good theory as to how it missed the mark.

I don't think it's going to go down in flames but what I (personally) take umbrage with is people saying it's the next coming of G/LC. Why should it get a pass when it was not designed completely in house (using outsourced parts), they don't have a track record, the design intent is not...

    My newly acquired Xt 225.

Is a rear shock really needed on those bikes? I honestly don't know. I'm sure the proper spring would get you most of the way there for general trail riding....
