I trust it fully so long as I'm within its capabilities. No rock crawling and no deep fording otherwise I have no concerns...well some cooling ones but that's to be expected in the dead of summer on steep grades.
I've had a couple things break on trips but luckily both were by a town with auto...
I'm looking for some advice on how to safely set up my power system. I'm a complete beginner with wiring.
The picture below is what I have. Basically 85Ah AGM battery that will power a 60qt ARB fridge, an inverter, and solar controller where solar panels will feed into (mainly a camp situation...
Nice, those are great boxes for the price. I used one for my JetBoil and coffee/tea/fixens etc. Basically all my liquid utensils.
You can actually pop the top off the case and gain access to some more cavity.
Here's the method I used to secure my ARB fridge. I cut 4 slots into the 3/4" plywood so I could feed the straps through. After feeding the straps through and pulling tight I then wrap the excess strap horizontally which further tightens everything and holds the fridge secure under rough conditions.
So I have a similar setup as you're thinking. Here's a picture and a few thoughts from what I've learned with multiple iterations of rear storage platforms.
Enclosing a fridge is fine as long as you leave room for it to vent/cut holes for venting. I can store a 63qt ARB in the cubby hole with...
Thanks. I used Minwax Wipe-On Poly (Satin), about 4-5 coats on the top surfaces and 3-4 on the sides/underneath.
I plan to use some sort of additional coating on the top surfaces but have yet to find something I like. Carpet is good and all but I'd rather have something I can wipe off. Also it...
I know it's difficult to give an estimate esp. depending upon circumstances but any idea how long this could power an ARB 60L fridge in temps around 80 degrees F?
Also, assuming the best circumstances, how long does it take the pack to recharge off solar?
Thanks!
Most important thing I've learned is to drive around to feel/see how things shift in transit. How do you plan to secure the platform and items on/in it?
ARB 63qt fridge goes on the passenger side and slides out in the cubby.
Standard sized milk crates or small action packers go in the driver side cubby 3-deep.
Sleeping platform on the driver side when 2nd row is folded.
A work in progress. The idea behind this is the ability to be modular. The fridge (63qt) section is independent of the storage section to the left of it so that either can be removed easily. Both will be secured to the 3rd row seat holes that are connected directly to the vehicle on the floor...
Good info guys thanks, I'll pick up a meter and report back.
I agree with the effectiveness trailing off as the time goes by since all the stuff in the beginning is prechilled or frozen. Not to mention as food is consumed the air volume increases unless refilled with something.
My main goal...
For sure there are some serious assumptions here.
Sorry I forgot to add that the battery is not being recharged by the alternator, it's a stand alone simply powering the fridge.
No clue how it gets such a % capacity. I'm not even sure voltage is accurate as a measurement but both my...
I don't know much about electrical systems and would like some help understanding the power usage of my fridge.
63qt ARB fridge
85Ahr AGM battery
Direct connection via ARB plug/wiring harness
Fridge temp set to 32 degrees F and had pre-cooled food/drinks and one frozen 2lb piece of meat...
I just returned from a week long trip in the Eastern Sierras. A few things about the system:
Good:
Tons of surface space. This is the main reason I went this route and am happy to say the table serves as a great place for cooking, rummaging through bags, a place to fold blankets/stuff sleeping...
Rounding the corner seems like the best option. I rounded the c-channel that slips over the wood but I see what you mean about the contact with humans.
I got the carpet (espresso I believe the color is) from Lowes. It was in their outdoor fabric roll section and I think around $15. Apparently...
