Added carpeting to the main storage surface and painted the outer side of the table with chalk board paint. Also took rayra's excellent advice and used C-channel for the table support. Thank you! I had to stretch out the C-channel a little to make it easy to slide on and off but it holds like a...
Every bit of space counts!
The areas around the Kern River are beautiful. Visited Kennedy Meadows/Monache Meadows a few years back. I've never run into any grow ops in the Sierras, are the growers aggressive?
Trail of 100 Giants will be a bit far west for us since we'll be coming up I-15/395N...
I think if you use one of the approaches rayra described in previous posts you could get this to work. The tailgate has the added benefit of supporting that first piece of wood.
Thanks, yes the green was picked in hopes it would be more visible. There's approx. a 3 in. gap between the tailgate...
Here's what I installed today on my 80 series Landcruiser.
I ordered the following:
- Tab-Tite Cradle fits 10" Tablets Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 & Tab S 10.5 [ RAM-HOL-TAB26U ]
- Ram Mount RAM-B-101U 1-Inch Diameter Ball Mount with 2/2.5-Inch Round Base (Black) [ RAM-B-101U ]
Took some...
The warp is what I'm most worried about here. Glad the C-channel is working out for the roof rack.
I still need to decide on a type of coating that's not too expensive but repels liquids. After protecting the wood I've been thinking using velcro to attach an assortment of coverings from...
Really like the simple approach of C-channel added on there. Thanks for the idea rayra! You've got some serious engineering/woodworking skills, just spent some time looking through your signature links.
Good idea rayra, my only concern is that the wood sits flush with the tailgate but that could be altered by slightly raising the platform so the brackets sit higher and allow for sliding braces.
Last night I attached some vinyl-wrapped 3/16 in. wire to use to suspend from the 3rd row upper seat...
Thanks, yes a bunch more surface for food prep.
I added circular magnet latches to the corners to secure the wood to the storage system when stowed away.
The next step is to design some sort of support system for the cantilevered piece to beef it up when fully opened.
I decided to go the piano hinge route. It sticks up a little bit but nothing I can't deal with. I may recess the hinge in the future but I'm pleased with the way it turned out the first time around.
My design is focused around being light but functional. I'd love a set of drawers but their...
Looking for some advice on an idea I'm trying to make a reality.
I'm trying to create more surface area at the rear of an FJ80 than exist with the OE Tailgate. My idea is to attach folding pieces of wood to my already existing simplistic storage platform.
I have already cut/mounted the first...
I have done something similar but with water heater insulation from the hardware store. Had the rear sliding windows of my 80 series covered for a good year and have noticed on long trips the temps inside do stay a bit cooler but I don't have any scientific evidence to back that up :) I mounted...
Wow that wayalife place has some nasty comments considering none of them were there to truly understand what happened.
Very sad news and a wake up call.
I used the Gaia app on my last trip. I was a little confused on how to use the app at first but after saving various maps before the trip and getting to know the app more I'm pretty satisfied.
It worked great for me off-road and on road. My table doesn't have a data plan (not that I would have...
