I've dealt with Chris up at Ironman4x4 USA and the service is stellar. Hearing this and being in the hunt for a fridge might conclude my search, seeing how the Ironman is much more affordable than the others I was looking at like SnoMaster, ARB, Engel, or National Luna (ruled out due to the...
I have seen the FSR High Country tri-layer in person and it's really nice. I opted not to get the CVT since the warranty thing on the Black Friday sale, and also I've heard of zipper issues that would render it broken basically which is not good. I went with a 23Zero Walkabout 62, and got the...
Definitely with some help from friends and extra hands! It takes some fanagaling to get both on loose finally but it's possible, I only have one are where a PS line touches that I need to watch or have a new line made to include the proper bend. Chris at Ironman 4x4 is extremely helpful and...
My GX is a 12' Base, no air suspension which is what you want. Also 2010-13 are the non-predator mouth front bumpers, so if you plan on going full build route that's something to consider, also the rear lights are different starting in 2014. I think MPG is about the same as a 4R, but a GX is...
I've been trying to figure out how to do this a while now, also how to actually scan once I have all the relevant FM/EchoLink repeaters programmed. Besides the one repeater near me that I know gets a lot of traffic, it's hard to ever find people on air, I know it varies but it's pretty quiet a...
Yes like that, nit sure if it's the exact model, but my friends has the quilted liner and was quite toasty in comparison to a 0* bag and ground tent in 32* weather.
CVT sale is this weekend IIRC, I've been looking for more deals but I don't think there are anymore I haven't found, surprise me...
Looking for my first RTT, and with all the upcoming and current sales its quite tempting to go all in. That said, what are some experiences with the above brands/tents some existing owners have; Pros and Cons.
A friend of mine has the High Country tri-layer that I did hop in at the James River...
Yeah, so after reading my manual more, the 710G has ARO, or Automatic Repeater Offset built in, so that's good to know now. It automatically scales up from I think 146.000, 0.6MHz, and - 0.6MHz from below 146.000. There is so much to it that I hardly have gotten into it just yet. APRS and the...
I've got the Kenwood software and bought the RT Systems too. I see your point now with scanning saved frequencies using VFO, I've just been manually tuning to everything which is old already. I have run into very nice guys on the air so far when I did establish contact. I think another issue...
This is great to read and hear since I just picked up a 710GA and when I was shopping for it I kept thinking, all these dual band radios are old? Now I get it more. I haven't even scratched the surface into APRS, I have built in GPS but don't know what else to use it for besides spitting out...
Dobinsons and Ironman4x4USA are good options too. I run Dobs now, HD 2", later I like the Ironman FCP kit, 2.5-3", need to get UCAs then and BMC chop potentially, and bigger wheels and tires then, etc. That's later :)
Can you specify for what model/year this was for, thanks for the info though. Hopefully it saves others headache down the road. I know the Dobinsons for the Prado 150 isn't a walk in the park for the GX460, and that's pretty standard from what I learned, but what you've mentioned isn't acceptable.
Save your running boards!!!! Trim them or else you'll end up with a void like I did, acceptable but looks better with leaving the boards and trimming. If you save the plugs for the lighting on the boards, which I did manage to cut off and save, you can just find whatever lights you want to use...
Run my 460 with normal all the time, all is well. Dash cracks hopefully were fixed by prior owners, Lexus replaced them within 10yrs of the vehicle being new I believe so all the 470s are up by now. Lots of info on GXOR specifically for that and more.
Thanks for the replies, understand more of the inner workings of APRS, I don't think being out in desolate places overlanding and having a mobile Yagi antennae would be a practical answer to send a message with promised success in an emergency situation, nor tracking orbit paths to assure you...
Thanks Dave, point being that while the technology is there and "works" to send messages for example as all brochures explicitly advertise, it's not an easy thing to do AT ALL, and seems there's even more to it as you mentioned, such as needing to be in the FOV/orbit path or the satellite that...
Valid point, I didn't like the others anyhow layout wise and buttons are reliable. -20* is cold though haha, still way too new to see if APRS is going to work and support the emergency function in place of a Garmin In-Reach or SPOT device coupled with my iPad for GAIA maps, just taking baby...
