    Clunking on acceleration

Thanks. The drawings help me understand how it goes together. Totally different to the earlier setups. But as you say it doesn't give the finer understanding of the mating surfaces of transfer case to gearbox. By looking at the drawings, I still say that the spline should be oiled by seepage...

    Clunking on acceleration

Yes , that is totally had it as well. It is a different setup all right and only slides into that spline and is not really held in tight. In reality it looks like it should pick up oil seepage from transfer case oil. There is nothing to stop it from "working" on that spline. Bad design I'll...

    Clunking on acceleration

Okay, now I'm lost. Yes, that certainly is a lot of wear and possibly from lack of lubrication. It doesn't even look like an internal shaft by the crude on it. What year model is your truck. Do you have a model number for your gearbox because that is not the same as our gearbox output shafts...

    Clunking on acceleration

I know Syncros can be fitted into our boxes (over here) to be able to have syncro on 1st gear. Certainly would be handy when 4WDing in the rough. The hub (1st/reverse) that is in there is slotted for them to fit in there. So yes, you end up with syncro for reverse as well. When I had a customers...

    Clunking on acceleration

The wear on that spline will certainly give you a bad clunking sound on acceleration and deceleration. It will resonate through the gearbox and transfer case and will sound like it is all coming apart. It will also throw everything out of line in the rear gearbox bearing and you will get...

    Clunking on acceleration

If your box is the same as the earlier boxes which I believe more or less it is. That rear gearbox bearing has no problem getting lubricated by splash feed. It is not supposed to be a sealed bearing. It is lubricated from the gearbox side as the seal is in the transfer case. Only know of one...

    Introducing Rosa, FG bus build

The stock rims are not wide enough for 315/75r16 tyres. You have to use tubes as they are split rims. They will be that bulged out in the side walls and will be kissing when mounted as duals. You may get away with 8.25x16"s if you keep the pressure up. 9.00x16"s definitely kiss in dual setup...

You will have trouble running 315/75r16" on stock rims. Dan.

Canter model decoding for Australian models

I'll also say that the FG439W always had GVM of 5000kg and no there was no lighter chassis. They only went to higher GVM as the years went by. With the chassis number I can possibly decode some info. Option code and SOA mean nothing in my paper work. But yes. they do mean something. seat belts/...

FG chip tuning in the USA?

"SkiFreak" I believe is on the mark. No chip tune available. To my knowledge, yes it is a mechanical pump with built in internal electrical control and not adjustable. (I would like to be wrong on this.) There are a few truck here that I have knowledge of that are suffering from injection pump...

Air bubbles in transfer case oil

Air bubbles in gearbox oil would be fairly normal just after it has been driven. It is being stirred up just by the actions of the gears going round. Time it takes to settle Etc. is in all the additives in the oil (antifoaming and all). To me it sounds like you are getting gear train "windup"...

    FG Lug nut/bolt questions

Re-use is not a problem if it is still intact. A slight smear of RTV if you like to make sure it seals and will make it easier to reuse again if need be. Dan.

That certainly looks like a great adventure. Thank you for giving us a look at somewhere different. Dan.

    FG Lug nut/bolt questions

Yes, undo the two little screws - remove lock washer. Behind that is a nut that needs to be removed. There is a thread somewhere that explains how to make a spanner to get it undone. Back your brakes off it will make it easier to remove the brake drum and hub , wheel bearing an all. Now you can...

    FG Lug nut/bolt questions

Yep, cut it with an angle grinder down through the centre of the stud and nut just down close to the rim and split the nut of. On earlier models the stud is held in with a nut on the back inside the drum. I would believe a 649 would be the same. So to replace it, it comes out after removing nut...

    Build Thread: Burni

I just used a piece of 3/4 plate to make my T3- T4 adapter. The holes where it bolts to the T4 side are tapered /Countersunk and I use in the appropriate size. The T3 holes are threaded and studs are used. The surfaces for the gaskets were draw filed flat.

Engaging 4WD High without locking hubs (FG649)

Yes, you are right it is in the transfer case. The noise is what happens (normal) when you try to engage 4WD without having the hubs engaged. Dan.

Engaging 4WD High without locking hubs (FG649)

It is pretty normal if you don't have your front hubs engaged and try to put it 4WD to get a lot of noise. Nothing in the front diff is spinning so no synchronization of the two shafts. Dan.

    FG637 Camper Build

2.3metres is certainly wide and it is often I am threading my mirrors between the trees as tracks are too closed in. When we initially had a 2.3m camper on we broke windows, thus we now have camp boxes. Probably you won't travel tracks that we would and all will be good. Enjoy your build. Dan.
