YAAC - Yet Another Ambulance Conversion

I have cut the aluminum storage bins to accommodate my design layout. Here are some pics after trimming the cabinets. Two rear cabinets cut down...a queen bed frame will be built at that height. Notice that the exterior access to the lower section of the cabinet will be preserved. Also...

    Interior building material

I have built out a box for Fuso using 1x2 and 1x3 poplar with luan panels for wall coverings (some 1/2 ply for seats, seat backs, and bed base). It kept the weight down and was strong enough to survive my family and now is traveling around Europe with its new owner. The best part was that it was...

YAAC - Yet Another Ambulance Conversion

TADA! I have finally removed the entire Ambo wiring system and restored everything to factory configurations with the exception of the high beams. I have not been able to find the splice they did for that and it's too damn cold here in MT for more outside work. So I took it on a 1 hr drive...

YAAC - Yet Another Ambulance Conversion

I am in the final phases of getting to a bare-bones box. I spent nearly 12 hours tracing and removing the wires that ran from the cab (under the driver's seat into the engine compartment). Ignore my previous estimate, this is taking longer than I anticipated. So far I have only lost my high...

YAAC - Yet Another Ambulance Conversion

@Bikersmurf today I removed the wires that ran through the ceiling. It took two hours, but I salvaged a ton of wire runs. While it looks rather daunting, a slow and steady pace that preserves the plywood, screws, wiring, etc will take ~20 hours to get to the alum frame throughout. Well maybe...

YAAC - Yet Another Ambulance Conversion

Well between work and fall photography in Yellowstone, I have only spent limited time on the stripping of the interior. I have removed all of the plywood cabinets and structures. Carefully preserving each piece as well as the hardware. The only things that remain are some wiring and the...

YAAC - Yet Another Ambulance Conversion

Made a little progress yesterday and completely opened up the passenger side by removing the enclosure for the A/C and heater. I gained 36" of interior space and most importantly opened up the pass-through! Here are before and after pics. I am taking my time so I can reuse the baltic birch...

YAAC - Yet Another Ambulance Conversion

Well day two was limited to just a few hours, so I focussed on removing the built-in A/C and heater. This involves finding the A/C and heater lines under the driver's side and disconnecting them. Remove the protective caps on the engine side of the A/C lines and close the valves. Then separate...

YAAC - Yet Another Ambulance Conversion

@iggi I have used foam board in previous builds and found it to work quite well. After researching some current build threads on YouTube (eg. Humble Road on Youtube) and reading articles like this one https://faroutride.com/insulation/ , I decided to use Thinsulate on this build

YAAC - Yet Another Ambulance Conversion

I recently acquired a 2003 E450 Ambulance with a 7.3L with 54k miles! The cloth OEM seats look new and the cab interior is like new as well. The undercarriage is rust-free and clean. I probably overpaid due to the Covid premium, but I got a great base rig. Oh yeah, it is 2wd...ugh. My...

    SOLD - 2003 Ford E450 Ambulance / 52,427 Actual Miles / 7.3 Diesel Engine

@Jdubucsd I used the 100AH batteries and the 50A Victron Charge Controller. Now that I wired them in series, I realized that I could have gone with a smaller charge controller. Of course there is the Ambo build which will get a roof full of solar panels!

    SOLD - 2003 Ford E450 Ambulance / 52,427 Actual Miles / 7.3 Diesel Engine

Yeah...I bought it...you will notice that I made a comment that this would be a great expo rig foundation. We were negotiating on the purchase of a Chinook when this was listed. Fortunately, the Chinook was over-priced and the owner was not in a mood to negotiate. So we are now planning our...

    Agile or ujoint

I have recently moved from a Fuso FG 140 to a 2003 Ford E350 with a U-Joint conversion (see 7.3 Steel Blue on their site). This has a solid front axle and coil springs. First impressions after ~1000 miles: excellent on road manners, outstanding off road (ok, mostly forest service roads with some...

    2007 Fuso w/Custom Camper -*SOLD*

Sold. New owners take possession in early June and can announce if they choose. I will still be a Fuso resource to any who need help, as many have helped me. Special thanks to Lance and Michelle @EarthCruiser...they are ultimately responsible for me getting acquainted with the Fuso FGs.

2007 Fuso FG 4x4 w Custom 14' Expedition Camper (*Sold*)

A couple of updates to questions I have received. On MPG...If you cruise the interstate at 65 MPH+ you will get 10-11 MPG. Cut the speed and tour like we do in Yellowstone/Tetons and you will see 13-15 MPG. The last time we weighted the truck, we were fully loaded with supplies for two weeks...

    2007 Fuso w/Custom Camper -*SOLD*

Bump with some additional info that has been requested: MPG: the range is 10 - 15 MPG. On the interstate running 65-70 MPH, I average 10 MPG. Touring Yellowstone and Tetons (which is mainly what we have done) we get 13 and have seen a tank or two at 15 MPG. Speed, mountain passes, and strong...
