Work and Phoenix weather have put progress on hold. But I do have the axles apart with new centers on the way. Hopefully I will do the mods to the spring hanger mounts by October and then start on the 4WD conversion.
Oh and just to add to the flames. I haven’t looked at any of the new “safe even when overloaded” Tonka Toy Tacoma’s lately but back in 2016 they didn’t even have disk brakes on the rear axle. Have they managed to rectify that throwback to the Jurassic design yet?

Yeah Oz has its fair share of rednecks although ironically they used to be called “Bevan’s” which happens to be my first name. Maybe my parents had a premonition.

I live in Phoenix these days so I am familiar with the lifted truck scene (although here is no where near as bad as Florida). But I did wonder how those petite ladies got in them so that was a very educational video [emoji1].
And I am as guilty as most about modifying my vehicles. I believe in...
Hard to link off my phone but it’s NHTSA 49 CFR 571.121 Standard 121 Air Brake Systems specifically S5.3.1 Stopping Distance.
I will also add that since 1999 these vehicles have been required to have ABS.
Somewhere out there the NHTSA also published the results of their testing of air brake...
The roadworthy does not require the truck to be loaded and it used to be just an inspection. But a couple of years ago they changed it to an actual on road deceleration test (rolling road or physical road). They do have different values for different weight vehicles and also test the emergency...
Once again you are playing with alternative facts. The big RVs are required by law to be able to stop at full GVWR from 60mph in 250 feet. So now you are saying a Tacoma (let alone a modified over weight one) will stop in less than 84 feet.
The RVs I am most worried about are not the big ones...
I whole heartedly agree with this sentiment. We have hosted over 300 international travelers in the last 6 years( mostly motorcycle travelers staying inside our house). Sure it ends up costing a bit of money but the friendships gathered and the educational experience gained by our grand daughter...
Modestly overloaded! Do you actually know how overloaded? Show us the weigh bridge papers for your truck fully loaded as you head out camping/traveling. With you and the rest of whatever crew travels with you.
Do you a lot of experience with big vehicles?
My current rig is about 2 ton under its capacity in the current configuration. Front axle has 45 degree steer (better turning circle than a long wheelbase 4WD pickup) and much better brakes than any of my van or 4WD (land cruisers , jeeps etc)...
Make sure it doesn’t have a grid heater before squirting anything down the intake. My 926 definitely has a heater and if you hit it with ether bad bangs can happen. I would not recommend it and if you must stick to something like WD40 (propane propellant) rather than ether.
Also make sure the...
It really depends on what size ******** you have. [emoji1]
We have a 1200 wide aisle in ours which is really about 1000mm when all obstructions are considered. But one of our criteria was both of us being able to move about without someone having to sit down.
This was a critical factor in our...
If the air filter is OK get the fuel supply proven before heading down any expensive path. I have had crud block an in tank filter before that was a pig to chase down. Engine fuel filter was changed many times but I didn’t check flow until very late in the episode. Tried to rely too much on...
Not sure what is on your series engine but 3 other things to consider are the EGR valve stuck open or the vanes on the turbo stuck (if it’s a variable vane turbo) or stuck wastegate.
Check your rubber boots and intercooler for leaks. Also how long since it did a regen. If it’s not restricted on the inlet side them it may be on the exhaust end. The use of a lot of DEF could be causing exhaust issues.
