Looks like I need to run it over the scales. But going by the pain in my back and shoulders the rack is a**** ton and the bike and sidecar would be around 750# or more. I figure the whole lot is over 1/2 ton. But I have 3 ton to play with from what the Ambo loaded weighed in at.
Sort of waiting...
You guys do realize that most of the 4WD trucks in Australia either come with the snorkel as standard figment or offer it as a factory option don’t you. Sort of negates all the “factory knows best so don’t install one” arguments.
Just about finished the hitch. I managed to get the motorcycle carrier receiver tubes flush with the bumper. This brings the carrier about 1” closer to the truck than last time. Doesn’t sound like much but I think overall I have reduced the amount it hangs out the back by about 2 1/2” overall...
Make sure you get one rated for dynamic loads. When I was checking them out the lifting capacity was fine but if you do some calcs they are not suitable for the shock loads with a motorcycle on them going down the road. But I have seen plenty of people use them without too many issues. One other...
Reese Class III SUV van Lt Truck Multi Fit Hitch. Found 2 of them in the clearance rack at the local RV trailer store for $50 ea. Easy to rework and with being welded into the existing bumper it is definitely at least class III.
Bumper day. I may be needing to do a trip soon so having my motorcycle carrier is getting more urgent. So with a little bush blacksmithing I will hopefully have a class III hitch and the receiver tubes for the motorcycle carrier in place by the end of the weekend.
These are the holes for...
Having used snorkels on vehicles for many years I was actually very surprised when I came to the USA 20 years ago that not everyone had them (and at the lack of roof top tents [emoji1]).
So I will try to throw my perspective on why they are useful from a practice point of view.
Dust- the...
Best of luck with your venture. But one thing on your website caused me to rush to google to see if there was a difference in definitions between Australia and the USA.
Drover definition for Australia is “A drover in Australia is a person, typically an experienced stockman, who moves...
If you go to a truck parts place you can get the stuff that looks a bit like synthetic grass. It last fairly well on my trucks and keeps the spray to a minimum. The other theory is that it sheds snow and ice but I have not tested that. It does seem to work with most of the sandy mud we have...
Isn’t there an exemption to the 25 year rule for fire trucks coming into the USA? Might pay to do a bit more detailed research before going the Canada route.
Check out post 21 in this thread. Should explain about the filters in the tank.

Yep they were the ones. I am always amazed by the level of detail they went to as well. Nothing is done 1/2 arsed. I think they follow the mantra of "If a jobs worth doing then it's worth overdoing."
