Got out yesterday for some fishing with a plan to access some BLM in the Berryessa monument outside of Winters, CA. My maps show a county road turning into what appeared to be a FS road. We encountered a gate... some folks that were working a tower came down the road and through the gate. They...
We didn’t want to deal with dumping a waste tank or the associated smell. Easily portable/switchable to a future platform. Can even still use it without having to pop the top.
I’ve had ARBs before and those would be my top choice. Lock rights are popular in the front of jeeps because it’s automatic. They can be a bit fussy about locking up when you need it to. A little trick is to tap the brakes and slow the wheel speed to get it engaged.
Newer silverados have “smart” alternators. I think it has set output voltages of 14, 13 and 12 something based upon what your actually battery charge is at. Mine used to always take a several hour drive before the alternator dropped into the 12s. Now that my solar is topping up the truck Battery...
@MattF350 We’re super happy with it! It’s perfect for what we wanted and what the truck could handle. It’s been a huge amount of work getting it to this point. But that’s the great thing, you can build whatever the heck you want in there.
I had about 15k on em. They were both good still, but the upper left boot had separated a while ago and wouldn’t hold all it’s grease. I tend to do “while I’m in here” maintenance. So just went ahead and did both sides.
Maintenance day. Replaced both upper ball joints and outer tie rod ends. I love how easy it is to replace these bolt in ball joints!
just a couple odds n ends then we’re ready to hit the road back to AK.
Im not as well versed in this stuff as @rayra is, but I agree it doesn’t seem like a super efficient or user friendly way to go about this. I’d go back and build that shelf on the cab side you mentioned and house major electrical components there.
It’s probably doable. But will be very heavy compared to aluminum. And all that weight will be sitting on the bed rails.
then again Callen made steel frame and wood shells for many many years.
There’s pics of how I mounted the tracks further back in the thread. But yes it’s just standard L track. Then used l track stud fittings to attach to 1/8” x 2” aluminum bar. It was kinda weird getting em lined up since the L track holes are 17” on center and the rotopax are 17 3/4”. They’re a...
Ran the truck across the scales today. Only missing weight is my wife, our personal clothing and food. 140 lbs under our GVWR of 7200#. Think that’s pretty good. So I’m thinking all up for a journey we’ll be maybe 100 over.
230# under front GAWR
And 610# under rear GAWR
I also have E rated...
See it now. I also saw the ban list with pics. They picked the mini-14 with pistol grip, rails etc instead of the wood stock version. Bet 10 bucks you put the two side by side to the clowns writing these laws, they’d say the wood stock one was fine.
Ruger Mini-14 not on the list . Semi auto, 5.56 or 7.62 variants. Functionally the same as an AR. But it doesn’t look scary enough to get banned I guess.
Sorry Canadians brothers and sisters to the north. This stuff isn’t fair. Same nonsense they pull here in California where the urban majority...
