McVickers Family Adventure Team Memorial Day Weekend AZ Backcountry Adventure!

Our next goal was to visit the fire tower at the top of Mount Union, the highest mountain in the Bradshaw Mountains. Poland Road, FR261, will take you within a mile of the top at which point we continued on foot. This was perhaps the slowest one mile hike, 380 ft gain, that I have ever done...

McVickers Family Adventure Team Memorial Day Weekend AZ Backcountry Adventure!

After exploring the mine area we headed back towards Palace Station. An interesting reality of exploring with kids is finding ways to keep them engaged and interested. When asked where we were headed after the mine we said Palace Station. ? - "A Palace, What's a Palace?" A - "Um, It's where the...

McVickers Family Adventure Team Memorial Day Weekend AZ Backcountry Adventure!

I looked, but all of the short thread titles were already taken! After hearing about Tim's, SOAZ, trip from Phoenix to Prescott on dirt roads I realized that I have heard of the Senator Highway several times but I had never explored it. So we spent Saturday night through Monday exploring 75...

    MSR water filter

I would not use it. Going from white to red in color sounds like some sort of growth. I recommend calling MSR customer service direct and asking them what actions to take. Most likely the element just needs to be replaced. Just not worth playing with IMO. Brian

    McVick’s Land Rover DII

It is very stout. Full box construction. There are vertical plates or walls welded in on either side of each tail light as well as on each end and I believe in the middle. It mounts using all four holes from the frame ends as well as using two cross supports to the frame rails from the quarter...

    McVick’s Land Rover DII

I changed to front and rear bumpers from HiCountry Offroad in Evergreen Colorado. The front bumper provides an improved approach angle and is a bit lighter while the rear bumper provides quarter panel protection and a swing away carrier that will accommodate a full size spare and up to three...

    McVick’s Land Rover DII

Brakes Shortly after purchasing our DII we were having a hard time getting used to the "soft" brake pedal that is common in some of the earlier DIIs. We later learned that it has to do with the brake calipers and the issue was eventually addressed in the 2003 and 2004 models with different...

    McVick’s Land Rover DII

No, It came with a set of Goodyear Wranglers from way back when in 265/75 R16 By the time I had been in Arizona for a year they began to dry rot so I replaced them with a set of Yokohama Geolander AT+II in the same size. The Geolander tires proved to be extremely stiff and would hardly deform...

    McVick’s Land Rover DII

With several recent modifications and planned additions to the vehicle it is time for a thread. Many of these projects are on their second or third rendition as I am constantly, but slowly, working to make the vehicle perfect for our family. First off I'll introduce our Jeep the DII replaced...

    Camp Jeep cancelled for 2009

Detours happen and the trail to Camp Jeep® will have to be bypassed this year. Thursday, April 16, 2009 at 1:10pm Camp Jeep®, which began in 1994, has always been THE event where Jeep® 4x4 owners get together for outdoor activities, music, and most importantly, some great four-wheel drive...
