    The Heap. A Gen 2 Tracker/Vitara Build

Kicked the Tracker out of the shop for a moment in order to do service on the Wife's Rav4 (needed a balll joint) Seemed a good time to get some quick Iphone shots. I definitely like where this is going.....

    Maxing out your truck’s payload

A rather large part of these ratings is dependent upon usage Take a typical load E tire for instance. Its ratings are based upon a few things... Inflation, load, and speed. All are factors that will determine how much heat the tire will generate. Since this is a tire, I assume 100% duty...

    The Heap. A Gen 2 Tracker/Vitara Build

spare mockup Bumper plans are pretty well complete. Certainly going to need a trip to the machine shop for steel though. But this is about where it will be located. And it looks like I will be able to use the factory spare mount, but flipped so it bolts to the hoop of the carrier. And this...

    The Heap. A Gen 2 Tracker/Vitara Build

All, Ive updated the original post to include a running list of parts and cost. It helps me tremendously to keep track of these goodies, to be as prepared for the job once Ive dug into it. It also helps me keep track of what has been ordered, and will still need to be ordered. As of right now...

OnX GPS, Gaia GPS, All Trails or other for hiking and public land boundaries

its just another layer to add to your list We have been using Gaia since 2017 for backpacking and public land boondocking. Typically have a USGS topo, sat-imagery, private land and public land layers on. BTW, the property ownership layer is a must-have for those hunting real-estate

Some sunday morning sketchup Working out the material list for the rear bumper by putting things in cad The rear bumper will include a hitch, as well as pivots for a rear mounted, fold down spare tire carrier. The tire will be held between and held by the tailgate and carrier, to share the...

    The Heap. A Gen 2 Tracker/Vitara Build

Been scouring the 'net and local yards for a few items. One of them being OE Aisin front lockouts. Took a chance and nabbed these off of Ebay for less than $50. Always a chance they need hard parts, or are complete junk. Not the case.... all they needed was a full tear down, cleanup, repaint...

    Maxing out your truck’s payload

Easy. Every single item is used on trucks with a greater GVWR than my truck. I am still within those limits. Furthermore, items like axles have MFG ratings. Easy to find, and they are a great deal higher than truck MFG listed ratings. Any more questions?

    Heat Recovery Ventilators

Im talking -20F. Which is what, near -30C? We have zero problems maintaining heat at those temps. We have dry camped for more than a week that never got above zero degree F And the same results.... its a moisture/humidity problem, NOT a heat problem. And as mentioned, going further down the...

    Maxing out your truck’s payload

Nonsense. Running at max GVWR on the highway isn't taxing anything near peak on a truck unless you are hitting a legit, and long, 6+% grade, or operating continuously on legit off-road. Start from the ground and work your way up... Tires Brakes Hub/wheel bearings Axle housing Ring and Pinion...

    The Heap. A Gen 2 Tracker/Vitara Build

For sure. These are crazy fun, even on a tight budget. My intentions are to make this mechanically 100%. So as soon as fab work is finished up, body will come off the frame, engine and trans gone thru, front and rear diffs, brakes, etc... etc... At this point I have near 3k of parts on order...

Dual Rear Wheels and Mild Off-roading - Is it Really That Bad?

Ive seem far too many problems with extenders to ever consider them. Hard pass.

    Heat Recovery Ventilators

I love the idea, but honestly I see this as little more than a solution in search of a problem. Our winter travel and camp experience shows that moisture & condensation control is a priority, NOT heat control/efficiency. Some of that condensation of course comes from breathing and cooking, but...

    Custom Cabin Filter

At one point I had hoped we would somehow avoid another nasty fire/smoke year. So much for that.... a bit more than 6 months of use, and our air quality index getting worse by the day, I figured it was time for a filter swap. And to say it again.... this is easily one of the top mods Ive done...
