2005 Tundra novice build - "The Rez"

David - getting close to final mounting. Just need to coordinate time with my friend. I've seen pics of the LC 100 series ARB bumper put on a Tundra before, and I really liked the look. I didn't want to mess with making custom brackets and such to make it fit. I'm loving my Brute Force Fab...

Friend selling his salvage Tacoma, considering buying it. Should I?

I guess another way to look at the situation is to ask how much are you willing/wanting to spend total on a truck? Looking at the picture I wonder if costs will end up being much more than you originally think, plus time and aggravation. If you're willing to spend a bit more you may be able to...

2005 Tundra novice build - "The Rez"

Thanks for the suggestions. I don't think I have time to do soapy water because it will take forever to dry (we're sub-freezing temps here right now), so I'm leaning towards brake fluid or similar. Thanks for the link on that product Loubaru, that looks very interesting. I'll scuff them up a...

2005 Tundra novice build - "The Rez"

Finally getting a chance to get the sliders welded up to the brackets and frame. I had to wait for a friend who is a welder to get back in town. I'm going to start painting them probably tomorrow. From what I've read on various forums I'll need to sand them first, then spray self-etching...

    Cletus' 2002 Tundra AC Build

Nice work on the frame prep and painting. I really need to do the same. What are the advantages of POR-15 over something like Rustoleum?

Saga of Stanley Fab - Builds of sorts!

Cool! That redesigned spring hanger looks awesome. Also, nice logo on it.

    Cletus' 2002 Tundra AC Build

Are you going to cut the bedside for the rear bumper like lhanson did? It looks like the Addicted Offroad bumper leaves the bedside untouched.

    Cletus' 2002 Tundra AC Build

Looking forward to it! Post pictures of the process if you can. I have a set of leafs I need to install and I'm considering doing a U-bolt flip at the same time.

2005 Tundra novice build - "The Rez"

KTempleton - The stock bumper and hardware isn't terribly heavy. Maybe ~30-40 pounds for all of it? Probably less. If you're going to hang weight off the front, I think it may be best to upgrade to 700lbs springs. I still have 1/4-1/2 inch I can crank them down if needed, which is way more...

2005 Tundra novice build - "The Rez"

Loubaru - thanks! I love the look of the truck now. KTempleton - yes, 700lbs coils (Kings). With the bumper, lights, and winch I figure the total added weight was somewhere around 220 lbs (~150 for bumper, ~60-70 for winch, plus associated gear). I dropped just over 1/4" on both sides. I...

2005 Tundra novice build - "The Rez"

No, it's still there. The BFF bumper mounts to the factory mount points, and then extends the mounting to four additional points using a bracket on either side.

2005 Tundra novice build - "The Rez"

When you buy from Baja Designs, just let them know that you need the adapters to plug into your stock wiring harness. They will allow you to use your factory fog light switch as normal. I'm loving these BD lights....so much light even though they are the lowest level.

Finally got the chance to finish up the front bumper install by getting winch fully situated. Thanks viperdriver for the picture of how you mounted your box. I'd been struggling with how to do it, but your way seemed simple enough for me. I found that there is plenty of space to work with to...

    2004 Tundra Adventure Cab - Build/Adventure Thread

Yeah man, my thoughts exactly. I was watching the video of the water pump set up and was instantly ashamed that my engine is so dirty compared to his. Look at how shiny the valve covers are! My engine bay is definitely not clean, and the underside of the truck is always filthy even after I...

2005 Tundra novice build - "The Rez"

Jake - Any aftermarket skid plate made for the 1st gen Tundra will work with the BFF bumper. The bumper is made so the factory skid plate bolts right up to it (see the picture by viperdriver above). There aren't a ton of options out there for skid plates on a 1st gen, but Skid Row is something...

Looks like a blast! Glad the truck did well, and pretty awesome you were able to meet up with toyotech. Two of the best Tundra's out there sitting in the same driveway. -Kevin

2005 Tundra novice build - "The Rez"

I have the power steering cooler, but for the life of me I can't figure out how or where the bracket is supposed to attach. Right now I have the cooler just hanging, not interfering with anything. Safe behind the bumper.

2005 Tundra novice build - "The Rez"

Do you have a diagram or pictures of how you relocated the box? lhanson mounted his on the passenger side of the engine bay. Is that the common consensus? Right now I just have the winch mounted inside the bumper but no wiring to it and no control box. Thankfully Billy's bumper is...

2005 Tundra novice build - "The Rez"

it's way lighter too. The difference between the two was around 20lbs. Every bit counts when you're hanging it off the front. Bumper is on the truck, running into a few snags though trying to wrap it up. Hopefully I can finish it tomorrow morning. More on that with pictures later. -Kevin

Thanks both of you. Can't wait to try these lights out. We've been hit with snow a couple of times already but the weather warmed up a bit. We'll probably get more before Christmas, along with tons of fog. Yesterday I got this: Actually ordered it a while ago, but never opened the shipping...
