My $.02 is that your perfectly fine! Manufacturers always tend to rate vehicles on the conservative side, its a CYA i suppose....its not like your trying to haul some mondo fifth wheel with your truck. The weight of your passengers and camping gear/ daily driving etc is something I wouldn't...
I couldn't agree more! I always get a chuckle out these threads. Truth is EVERY single situation is different. The climate, time of year, location, vehicle, number of passengers, activities, etc, etc dictate what you "need" to pack.
I will echo The Swiss's list somewhat:
Must haves
Getting...
Plasti-dip is pretty cool stuff to use as a protective coating. I have done rims to keep them from getting salt damage in the winters since they were bare aluminum. I have even seen guys spray it on the front of their cars on track day to fend off rock chips, after track day they just peel it...
Just some observations from living out of my YJ for a month now:
Pack light, think like a backpacker. Its my personal opinion that people tend to carry too much crap. Even though I tried to minimize the gear i brought I still had some stuff I didn't end up using.
Some sort of storage...
I hate to admit this but I struggled with a bolt for an hour once before I realized this was the "issue".......:snorkel:
Many others have brought up good ways to remove frozen bolts. Does the bolt thread in to aluminum? If so its stuck because corrosion caused between two dissimilar metals...
Drilling them out will only screw up the threads making it impossible to mount the windshield. BAD BAD idea in my book!:Wow1:
For what its worth I just mounted up a rack (like you are thinking) on my 1995 YJ and all of the bolts came out with any drama at all. They did appear to have lock-tite...
Ok I did explain that really confusing and then totally screwed up the whole point I wad trying to make anyways.......sorry had a few drinks in me :sombrero: Usually trailer decks are placed 60% forward of the axle by measurement. The point I was trying to make is that I think that 60% of the...
Every single time I see a Kamparoo I kick myself for not buying one that was for sale locally for $250..........in college and too poor at the time.
That said I really like the progress you have made with the new frame! :drool:I was somewhat surprised that that is all the frame those trailers...
As long as you keep the weight down on the trailer I think you are probably just fine without brakes. Off-road I could see brakes being handy in a few situations. For example say you are going down a steep loose hill: you could lock the trailer brakes so the drag helps keep the trailer strait...
Not sure of the dimensional differences between an LJ and a Scrambler ...........but I have seen two rows of bench seats (like a suburban)in the back of a scrambler before. It looked a little bit on the tight side but it was great for the guys younger kids.
Free Jeep stuff is always the best! I have actually found two reciever D-ring thing-a-ma-bobs out on the trail.....both were really rusty but cleaned up decent.
Today I loaded and packed my recovery and tool bag in back of the Jeep! Just 7 days left till I hit the trails for the next two...
If you have a D35 i would strongly recommended putting a later Cryco 8.25 in there. As I am sure you already know the D35 has a bad reputation.......and arguably for a reason. Locking a D35 can work but I have seen them fail a few times once they are locked. If Arkansas is anything like Utah you...
I love the idea of a 12 volt fan in a RTT! Its one of those "why didn't I think of that before" kinda things!
I never got a sample back from the supplier of the masonary backer mat.........called/ emailed them at least half a dozen times. Since the weather has warmed up its not as much as an...
X2! My Tuffy security console is still going strong a decade after it came with the Jeep I bought!
What did I do today? I finished off my front and rear bumpers then the roof rack and mounted the RTT up:
Check it out @ http://desertratadventure.blogspot.com/if you feel so inclined.
Also check into unbacked auto carpet. Its basically car carpet without the backing so you can stretch it a bit into the corners and get it to lay down on curved surfaces. you can actually get it to form fit over a wheel well pretty well.
Just a thought.
Napa usually is pretty decent for being able to get fuel hose in. If they have a hard time try giving EVCO house of hose a call. (800) 234-HOSE.
We used them a few times to get oddball hoses (fuel, hydro, hardlines, etc) for equipment and tractors when nobody else could seem to find it. They...
Just one thought about 4.88 vs 5.13 gears.......the pinion on a 5.13 gearset is starting to get awefully small and has less tooth contact with the ring gear.
(pinions are not out of the same axle, similar size, but different ratios) You can see what I mean.
Sorry to hear about your dad, best of wishes that all goes well.
Sounds like your having a great time! Maybe minus the cold. Sounds like your living the dream!
I haven't heard the peppermint oil on cotton ball trick before, I may have to give that a try. Mothballs in the jeep when its in...
Thanks for the link! I didnt know they had struts you could bleed down to get the desired force. I like that idea better than buying a couple of sets trying to get it right!
I think they have it at Home Depot and Lowes. We got at a local masonry supply in 30 gallon barrels..........we primarily used it to clean brick driveways, swimming pools and concrete.
Only reason we found it brightened up oxidized aluminum is an employee spilled it down the side of a truck...
