I went with 2" hub centric spacers on my Dexter axle when I did my build so that I could run AEV wheels on my trailer to match my JK. I believe that's the minimum width to clear the Dexter wheel hubs and dust caps without modifying the dust caps themselves.

I have the AEV bumper tire carrier with their 10.2 capacity fuel carrier. The tire carrier is frame mounted and linked to the tail gate so that they open together. Otherwise there is no way the tailgate could support the weight.

Do know that the plastic bits are intentional so that they break before things start bending. They include a couple of spares in the purchase.
