Wow, looks like it's been years since I've been here, it's time to get back into it. Just a quick catchup on the trailer, never made the trip to Mexico, my employer wouldn't let me take enough time off even though I had it saved up, so I left and started a new job (it was time anyway). We...
Great job, looks like it could have come from a Jeep dealer! Nice to see another Dinoot on here in the sea of M100's :) Do you have plans to do any further outfitting like electrical, solar, water tanks, etc? I totally second the comments about Scott and the Dinoot.com forums, I know I...
Why buy instead of build?
I've seen many drawer systems made from wood that look amazing and fit PERFECTLY with all kinds of cool features and honestly those are probably better. I am perfectly capable of building one and have all the necessary tools to do so, what I don't have is the free time...
A couple more points that have worked well for us and might help you.
We have our RTT centered on our trailer and when it's folded out we sleep with the bulk of our weight over the trailer and our legs on the section that folds out. Not that it really matters but it seems to keep the shaking...
Thanks! I think they'll be staying :) I have a set of TJM Treds mounted on the roof and I run a TJM 9k Stealth Winch in my front bumper, as well as some recovery gear from them. Had an issue with the winch and they took care of it for me even though my warranty was expired, happy with the...
Was able to get a lot done over the weekend and last night, the trailer is just about back to it's former glory, just shorter, sometimes. I got the rest of the welds done and cleaned up as well as adding a few weld on anchor points for zip tying down things like the actuator wires and the...
Should be fine but if you have standard "wet" marine batteries keep an eye on the water level, I've seen them get basically boiled off from being on a charger that wasn't intelligent too long.
Took a few weeks off from trailer work to get the FJ back into shape. It needed an AC condenser, CV axles, wheel bearings, uniballs in the UCAs, bushings on the UCAs, sway bar links and the new Icon coilovers installed that I got for Christmas. Of course we ran into a couple of frozen bolts...
http://echo4x4.net/ are from Africa but are now available here. At an overland rally we attended last year we met a nice couple from Canada that starting importing them and will sell to the states. We almost went for it but decided to keep our current home built solution instead, the wife...
Got the legs for the new rack mocked up and built over the weekend. This weekend is bookedbut hoping to get the old rack cut up and ready to weld the new legs on this week. I'm starting to get really excited about how this is going to work and look, here are a few pics.
I first mocked up a...
Not much new to report with the trailer modifications, I broke my right hand a couple weeks before I mounted the Rotopax stuff and in doing so completely over did it and decided I should actually let my hand heal before doing much more. I'm in pretty good shape now so I'm getting started again...
I was on a washed out fire road that was very off camber. I have 12 gallons of water low in the frame and that helps but lowering the tent will a lot more. The actuators and brackets I'm using were $208 delivered for 4, far less than the ones I found when I decided to not do this originally.
Are you building the lid like that for storage reasons? FrenchieXJ is right, you could just attach the tent to the lid but then you would either have to make your lid much taller or deal with the tent being lower. You could build your rack attached to the lid as high as you like and use struts...
You must have read my mind, got mine there as well, great prices when you bundle them all together and add the brackets too. I was hoping to weld them on like you mentioned. Everything is on its way, can't wait to get started!
I'm not normally a truck bed trailer fan but THAT is awesome, well done! I've thought about it and went with replacing the entire leg. I ordered 1-3/4 for the upper sections and 1-1/2 for the lower (telescoping tubing so I know they will fit). I also ordered my actuators today too so...
The 1/8 is the divided by two number so it's 1/8 all around. I should be able to weld it pretty straight as I do have a jig of sorts. I'm going to cut the legs off at the desired height while still bolted to the frame. Then I'll cut the enough off the legs still attached to the upper square...
