Anyone doing an XJ highline Low COG build?

Ha ha how awesome is it to see this pic online that is my buddy Chadwicks DD/ Jeepspeed build up! (hence the front diff truss) He is running 4-4.5 inches of lift, 33x10.50's and my old rims :sombrero: If memory serves me those flares are Hennaman (spelling?) flat tops. They made tons of room...

    Wrangler JK 4x2 to 4x4

GREAT point! When I built my WJ up I took out the stock t-case, axles and drive shafts and didn't reuse them. When it was sitting on jackstands with no drivetrain or suspension the only difference between my "4x4" and a 2wd was the transfercase adaptor.......probably could have started out with...

    Wrangler JK 4x2 to 4x4

I dont know with the JK's for sure but with most jeeps its a fairly strait forward swap. I know the front housing on a 2wd is essentially a 4wd housing just minus the diff and shafts and some different stub shafts to hold the unit bearing together. My buddy did this to an xj and it was more or...

    Earthroamer: new tire/wheel/suspension

x3 on this. I still have the issues where they covered part of the build and they are trimmed stock fenders with custom bushwacker flares. I ought to dig up those articles again! They were pretty good articles, I was bummed when they stopped following the build up mid way through.

35" spare tire on stock carrier?

While I have no experence with a JK carrier I can tell you that the stock carrier on my YJ started sag and rip the skin of the tailgate with just a 31' mounted. The rubber bumpers were properly spaced too. The tailgate had a hard time closing and rattled like crazy. A new tailgate and bumper...

    Right or Left

If you ever plan on spending time in a developed campground or KOA style campground I would have it open on the passenger side. It seems that they set up pull in stalls to be accessed from that side and usually they angle the stalls so backing in is not super easy.

Outside air temp sensor that doesn't look like crap?

Same thinking here. I had a cheapo thermometer that had an ice warning buzzer that would go off every minute or so when it was below freezing. Couldn't turn it off either! Got really old living where the temp wouldn't get above freezing for months at a time! Needless to say it didn't stay...

market for a trailer base "kit" ?

I an very curious about this DOT approval. My buddy builds trailers at a small firm here in Utah and all they do is weld them up, affix a serial number and send them out the door with a bill of sale. Maybe this varies by state? Single axle trailers in Utah under a certian weight (2000-2500 lbs...

Little Moab is such a fun place to goof around! Its one of the few places that I know of where a stock SUV and a rock buggy can have fun playing. Why yes I am good friends with an individual that has a yellow X with an ARB bumper and a snorkle. I take it your from around Bountiful/ Salt Lake?

Would you consider moving from XJ to WJ and upgrade?

There are a few ways to skin this cat................... I addressed it by swapping in the mainshaft and tail cone from a 242 t-case that had a speedo sensor. To get the speedometer to read right I used a Jet-Accuspeed to calibrate the pulses. To run the speedo sensor you have to splice into a...

Would you consider moving from XJ to WJ and upgrade?

Iron Rock Offroad offers a bracket set to swap a JK 44's into a WJ. The brackets are 400 for the front and 350 for the rear. With a little extra work you could make them fit other axles I would imagine. When I swapped my high pinion 44/ ford 9" combo I carefully cut the old brackets off the...

Trailer build based on a utility trailer

I have to say that I agree with your reasoning! My friend works at a small trailer manufacturing company here in Utah and they make a trailer that looks just like yours that I have thought several times would be ideal for a trail trailer with a spring-over! If it is put together right a small...

Would you consider moving from XJ to WJ and upgrade?

I am in Salt Lake Utah. I have seen it on three WJ's actually! (all were rusted on the drivers side oddly enough) Never seen anything similar on much older XJ, TJ or ZJ axles however. My guess is that the different coil bucket/ Isolator design on the WJ traps moisture under the isolator...

    Post Pic's of your Jeep

Well I guess its time to quit lurking and introduce myself. My name is Daniel and I am addicted to Jeeps............ I have a built (and beat) 2002 Grand Cherokee, two wranglers (a '92 and a '95, both stock, 2.5l engines), bits and pieces of a '50ish CJ3 and had a '92 Cherokee. Here are a few...

Would you consider moving from XJ to WJ and upgrade?

Having owned both I would take the WJ personally. They are just a little bigger and a bit heavier but I still feel they are a good base for an expo build. Big enough to sleep in and I felt the seats were more comfortable for long road stretches. I set my rig up for rock use (wish i never did)...
