I love driving my 90's pickup with the 22RE, stick shift and roll up windows. It will easily accelerate to and maintain 60-65 MPH on level highways, which is as fast as I want to go. Up a steep hill, no. Who cares? I don't.
Unless you're looking to own a pampered classic or a rock crawler...
Nice find. What engine does it have? I can relate to the advantage of having brighter back up lights, especially in the long, dark winters found in northern latitudes.
Yes, just about every shot is absolutely fantastic.
The king crab shot reminds me how my father used to occasionally dive for these in a small SE Alaskan inlet we frequented when I was a tiny kid. It was exciting to see him come up with one. Recently, the numbers of this species in Alaskan...
Looking forward to checking this out. :)
From OP's photo link I have the impression that his emphasis is on images of active people outdoors, with or without vehicles, while responses have mostly been vehicles in scenic locations.
:) I like it.
Since this is the Toyota area, may I suggest an older 4Runner with 22RE with the focus strictly on maintaining excellent mechanical condition. The more faded the paint job the better, and by all means don't jack it up and so forth.
I just came upon this story in the latest copy of Alaska magazine. A search of the Portal forum didn't produce anything, so hopefully this isn't a re post. A quote from the article:
The "Peace/Love Car" had logged over 400,000 miles and was loaded with bikes, racks, gas cans....The car (all...
Consider getting the OEM auxilary fuel tank instead of a long ranger. Cheaper, though it will still be expensive, probably a more reliable route to go and you will retain the stock location for your spare. After all, a good spare is important but you don't want it bumper mounted in the way of...
If the head gasket has been done on the '94, the low miles and new tranny would have me choose it over the '97. High miles plus a lift and big tires are not good for the front end and tranny of the '97.
1985 BJ70 3B diesel. 1992 pickup 22RE. Sold Cruiser, paid $1500 for pickup 7 years ago and plan on driving till it drops. Have a $50 canopy to throw on for "over landing". I've owned used Toyota 4x4's since 1990.
12 grand? Divided by 10. But I agree with you about ditching the Disco before heading over. Also agree with everything Christophe Noel has written in this thread.:)
Me too. Did they come in black with the stripes? That would also be nice. I had one of the ubiquitous and somewhat ugly tan '85s. They look the best in stock form, more or less. A small lift with 31's is good, but taller with bigger tires completely ruins the look, IMO, and performance must...
Fancy photos. Yes, the wheels must go. Nice looking truck, and the blacked out grille looks OK too. With the suspension, a leaf spring setup is always going to be harsh. Shouldn't be shaking though. New springs, bushings and shocks should make for an improvement.
