Ditch the 80 for a Power Wagon?

If you need, or would prefer a pickup, go ahead and sell the Cruiser. Might as well reach for the sky on your asking price as some fool is likely to cough it up. I wouldn't buy any model of Ram/Dodge, especially a fairly new and expensive one, but if that's what you want then go for it.

    Tacoma or 4Runner

With your screen name, maybe look at a Humvee. They're both great trucks. Toyota rules. If you're in snow country, I would recommend the 4runner over the pickup. Similar and mediocre MPG for both. Looks are subjective: I think the trucks after '04 are ugly, while 4runners look OK until the...

    Decisions...decisions...

Sell the Chevy, buy your fiance a car rather than a truck, and build your DC. BTW, what is a DC-dual cab?

    re-gearing for 33"s on 1st gen

I agree. Better yet, don't go up to a bigger tire. :)

Mechanic said might as well replace the engine if the timing chain needs replacement

Times 3. If the cooling system, starter, alternator, steering rack are original, MAYBE replace them just for peace of mind. Those trucks rarely break down.

Taking off to the Great White North

Looks like fall season hasn't quite kicked in yet. Have you had any occasion to use the extra fuel cans stored off the back, or are they just for potential emergencies?

Mechanic said might as well replace the engine if the timing chain needs replacement

Looks like a nice truck. I doubt Central Americans would turn up their noses at it, or consider it to be old. :) For sure you need to find out why the seller thinks the timing chain needs replacement. He may simply think it's a maintenance issue, discussed already in this thread, or perhaps...

    Expedition Overland - 2015 Season

Of course, and maybe with a mix of 15-25 year old stock SUVs, but no sponsors for that!

    1988 Toyota 4runner

Very nice. Without a lift, big tires and ugly wheels makes it extra special. Actually, it could use some genuine Toyota wheels.:) How many miles?

Tundra.... Would you switch from a new Ram Powerwagon?

One and the same, from my point of view. You don't want it to break down. Obviously Toyota gets the nod in this category. That said, not sure I would make the trade. Besides, both of those trucks are way too big, IMO. The local auto shop teacher set out on a family road trip with his brand...

    1983 SR5 tires

Rings true to me. Remember that older engines like the 22R typically have a much more difficult time passing the smog tests.

    FJ Cruiser Prices Skyrocketing.

No. 15-17K for the earlier ones. Still way too much for any car in Alaska, IMO. :) http://anchorage.craigslist.org/cto/5153820800.html

    1983 SR5 tires

There is a thread for these trucks that may be interesting for you to look at. Check out post #112 on page 12 for a before and after shot of an OME lifted truck. OME may be closer to 3". Don't know what the tire size is, but it may be bigger than 31". Consider that with the lift you may need...

Haven't owned any of their stuff, so far, but love their photos and videos.

    1983 SR5 tires

That's a good choice for a tire, and that size looks perfect on a non lifted truck.

    Transmission issues with my '95

Perhaps you could find a used, low mileage unit that could be transplanted in and save a lot of money. I'm afraid he's probably correct: The tranny is on its way out.

Why the Toyota Land Cruiser is so expensive

Because of it's well deserved reputation for possessing rock solid dependability and capability. Unfortunately it's morphed into luxury vehicle for the wealthy only here in the U.S., where it doesn't seem to have quite the snob appeal of a Land Rover. Over seas big shots know better. :)
