    Subaru advice (newbie)

Biggest decision is outback or forrester :-) Great vehicles - will do well on lots of terrain or diff weather conditions. Subarus are very endearing. You'll be surprised how much utility you get out of one with a roof basket like a yakima.

    M105 Trailer Build

Dexter is a good brand name - lots of options if you want hubs to match primary mover, etc.

    32X11.5X15 tire impressions?

I would opt for pizza cutters (33x10.50), but I had 32x11.50 MTs on a Jeep TJ (when everyone was getting 33s or 35s) and it was a much better compromise with on/off road manners and fuel economy. As a result, it required less lift resulting in better handling, easier entry/egress, etc. Just...

What is the best way to protect the trailer frame?

I used POR15 on my M100 Hit the bad stuff with a wire brush & wheel Got a POR15 floor pan & trunk kit kit on amazon, included cleaner, etching metal prep, top coat, brushes & even some seam sealer, putty, and repair fabric...

    Whats my trailer worth?

Agreed - right now there are a lot of them on the market in private pre-owned, surplus dealers, or surplus liquidation (like govplanet). Biggest challenge is you really need a larger SUV or truck to tow them properly - Jeeps and mid-size SUVs will struggle with the loaded weight of them. Good...

Which fridge? I'm researching but a lot options out there!

I have an ARB50 and I really like the display, actually - the wireless remote monitor was something I rolled my eyes at when I got the free voucher upon purchase, but it's actually a nice feature as I can check temp and voltage. I also found an improvement in consumption when I hard-wired the...

    DIY fridge slide.

Very well done! Thanks for documenting this - I always fail to get pics of my projects during the prototype/build portion.

    Back Country Navigator

I've found it great as a "you are here" with offline topo maps in very fine detail, but I've never invested the time to do a lot of route planning off-road with it.

That's a sweet setup and good price for everything.

WTB: Nimble Offroad Trailer... good volume, <1400 lbs, Washington State, < $5k

FYI - stock tongue length on an M416, M100, or similar is quite short (31") - you would need to extend it to fit a bike like in the picture. You could build a platform and put a dinoot tub on it (they can make the frame or you can go the harbor freight route) too.

    Joining aluminum without welding?

finding a welding shop that can TIG is the best course of action there, but you could also bond & rivet the joints... bolt together can be OK if you don't cause failure points where the bolt holes are - with tubing, it's easy to crush the walls if you over-torque - unless you sleeve it or have...

    Question for you Subaru owners

I fit way more stuff in my 2005 WRX than I should have - I had primitive skids and they were great for me. That said, on the ScoobyMods site there was a person who had a really nice modded forrester.

What is benefit of 30mm spacers if only lifts the body?

A body lift will give the needed clearance to run larger than stock tires. Larger tires can increase flotation over loose soil, better clearance over obstacles, etc.

Just Starting Out - Gear and Activity Review

Sounds like you're off to a great start! Focus on the fun - the adventure will come on it's own (sometimes uninvited!) Do consider shade - we pack an EZ-up, but open areas at the right times of the day can benefit from adjustable shade to keep the sun out and prevent "shadow chasing" to stay...

    another M416 build

Did you replace the apex (pintle, landing leg, etc.) for a more traditional ball hitch setup? Hard to tell from the pics.

I subscribed - curious as to how you build the lock outs.

Mounting a RTT to a standard model truck cap

You + Girlfriend + RTT + anything in tent is the static load with the vehicle at rest. That said, you can probably reinforce the cross bars without too much trouble.

Does a DIY awning need a full frame or just a couple of poles?

Good idea - let us know how the prototype works out. Suggestion: Use shock cord loops on your tie-outs to prevent the snapping and pulling from yanking the grommets out of the tarp.

    "Contractor" rack for Wranglers?

I've only seen racks that go over the top - never anything extending past the A pillar, and while many of them allow for the top to be folded down, very few allow a JKU top to be in sunrider mode.
