    Balancing Payload capacity vs. Offroad

I’m not clear on exactly when it hit. I do know that there were apparently complaints on the earlier Tundras post 2007 that the throttle was too responsive/twitchy (which Tow/Haul is too sometimes) and they numbed it up and clearly went too far, so introduced the TH button to recreate the...

Energy Efficient food prep: sous vide all in one method.

Two questions on this: 1) I assume there’s no such think as an effecient 12v kettle? At least I can’t find one that seems any good with a cursory search. Is that pretty much right? 2) Is anybody concerned with the safety of cooking/heating food in plastic? I searched on this, and there’s a lot...

    Balancing Payload capacity vs. Offroad

There is a sport mode, which has been in existence for a while; it basically lets you upshift and down shift top gears manually (or manually shift everything) and lock out overdrive. It doesnt change the tranny mapping or throttle response which the tow/haul does do. You can slap the shifter...

    Balancing Payload capacity vs. Offroad

The “fixed” it in the later 2.5 gens with the tow haul button that gives you a very responsive throttle and acceleration … and the mpg to go with it!

Really nice job and mod! Looks like you’ll have good room on either side of the door to mount stuff, eg, propane tank or Maxxtrax. Is that the plan?

    "Sleepy" - Equipt's 2004 Toyota Gen 1 Supercharged Tundra w/ AT Atlas

What a really fantastic build! Sure wish it had been available in 2020 when I was looking. Perfect combination of size and comfort for serious exploration. GLWS!

I couldn’t keep using my Wave 3 due to some past respiratory issues that it triggered, but that shouldn’t bother most folks. They’re not real bad at producing CO, but there’s always a risk. In researching heaters and CO alarms I learned that virtually all the standard “alarms” are set to...

    Lets talk shovels

Haven’t had to use it in practice. No stucks since I got it that needed a shovel. It stows nicely, and its still the only shovel I carry. If I was buying now, Id consider the Gerber Dredge. Same extended size and functionality, but stows smaller, and maybe more rugged. But weighs 2lbs more...

    2024 F150

Not a Ford/Domestic, but those are similar reasons to why I jumped on a new ’21 Tundra for my built. I wanted the old generation platform, many complained about (Edit: cause the design and geewhiz features weren’t updated to match the competition). A few nannies still bug me, but I couldn’t...

How much does a Sportsmobile 4x4 REALLY cost?

Two thoughts: 1. Good reason for why I never add up all my costs! Though I keep a record of them all, except gas. 2. An early financial planner I used really got on the soap box and insisted that the stupidest thing one could do was to buy any type of RV. I fired her soon thereafter!(n)🤣...

Wife needs car: Highlander vs. 4Runner vs Sequoia vs Landcruiser, rough differences info?

I have a 2018 plane Jane SR5 4Runner that we originally bought to build out and replace our ’09 Tacoma, but went a different route with the ’21 Tundra and camper. Since we can’t garage the Tundra/Camper, it stays covered and the 4Runner is the DD, but being retired, it’s just short local trips...

    Small sized Lithium batteries

There can be all sorts of differences: case construction/durability, cell types (prizm vs pouch), BMS (battery management systems) setup an quality, terminal structures and durability, etc. etc. @Dave in AZ has some posts here looking at some of the small batteries — you can search for those...

The track in the video is the type that feels like smooth sailing in my rig. Love the sand. The second one is “bad” in size, but it’s not rocky. If the ridges are soft enough to to collapse with a kick, it might not be terrible. I know it’d be worse than that first one for sure, but we get...

Good Solar gen Power Stations for DC and light AC Truck Campers

It’s easy enough to add an inverter either through the 50amp Anderson, or directly to the battery inside if you’re gonna need to draw more that 50amps. I had one for awhile, but took it out and am very happy to lose the weight and added complexity of systems. IMO, unless you fall into the...

Full stiff is interesting. For my setup it feels way harsher, even on city streets with minor asphalt repairs. I DO turn them all the way up for slow speed alternating camber or rolling rocky shelf roads, boulders, etc to reduce the head toss. Some minor washboard roads, I can run full stiff...

Good Solar gen Power Stations for DC and light AC Truck Campers

Glad it seems helpful. I do think you can expand these type of boxes. I’m no DC expert, but I can’t figure out why you would not be able to parallel connect another battery through the Anderson port, as long as you’re not exceeding the 50 amp rating of the connectors with your overall loads...

Good Solar gen Power Stations for DC and light AC Truck Campers

@ITTOG — if you haven’t come to conclusion yet, have you looked at set ups like the National Luna DC25 Power Pack or the KickAss Battery box? Neither has an inverter, but that’s not hard to add. I have the NLDC25 with a 100ah BattleBorn LifePo and its been great for 3 years. I did add an...
