I'm pretty sure you can get it out without having to pull the timing belt. at least I was able to remove the sensor on my 3.8L, but it's pretty much the same in that area between the 3.5 and 3.8L.... but.. you might as well do timing belt, w-pump, etc, etc, etc if it hasn't been done recently

bouncy seats are tempting... I never use the heated options... What are you using now for bases if you aren't using and/or don't like the bouncy?

I think I run a bit cooler, in the 190 range.... the last trip you and I were on, climbing up the east side to Cerro Gordo, and climbing up to Lee Flat I was hitting near 220, the gauge did go up, but didn't go past 3/4. I think I was low on coolant at the time which probably contributed to it...

I'm not an expert by any means, but I think those valves are usually Schrader valves (the same type of valve for airing up tires). You might be able to replace the valve guts with another. I would think that it is a fairly common size on cars.... so I'm thinking that just about any modern...

I've wondered the same thing myself.... the only thing I can come up with is to take off the intake manifold.

+1 on the OEM parts... saves you from having to do the difficult parts all over again. If you give yourself some time, and are mechanically inclined, I don't think you'll have problems. get a copy of the FSM and follow the steps. I did a head gasket job after only having a similar list of jobs...

I had temp gauge problems before, and the fuel gauge continued to fluctuate a bit.... I have no clue of the R12 resistor is linked to the fuel gauge, but it has the same number stamped on it as the R10, so I figured it couldn't hurt to put a bit more solider on it. I think the fuel gauge...

Actually yes! Over the last week I've driven the Montero 3-4 times and the gauge had gone up to a level when I start the car and doesn't move around wildly while driving. If you haven't hit the R10 with solder yet, it's fast and easy.

Perhaps I should have given it a go... when I was there, someone in a jeep cherokee with what was probably open diffs was trying mightily to make it up but failed... I always enjoy when someone in a more mainstream 4x4 struggles, and I flip on the locker and just go. :-)

I pulled the cluster this last weekend and touched up the joints on R10 (again)... there is also an R12 that has the exact same chip as R10, I touched up R12 as well (it's just above R10 along the top of the board). Fuel gauge seems to be better, but haven't received an update from my wife just...

could be a rear cam seal (you can do a quick fix with gasket maker), might also be front crank seal, or front cam seal.

usually the clusters are yanked from the cars I see at the parts yards... but if you find one you could give it a go and see if it works... if it doesn't, well now you have a board you can experiment with. you can buy a new circuit board thing that goes onto the back of the cluster, but you'll...

Are cracked exhaust manifolds a common issue? I'm debating on repairing or replacing the manifold, the driver's side is clearly cracked... but I did pull the passenger side, but can't see any obvious cracks. at nearly 150k miles, should I just replace them both? Dealer is charging around $250...

as long as premium only costs $.20/gallon, the more expensive gas gets, the cheaper it becomes to put in premium (as a percentage difference between regular and premium fuel)
