Looking to buy a 3rd gen montero

I have an 03 3.8 and a 99 3.5. The 03 has so much more low end torque. Finding that 3.8L engine is the way to go

    Opinions on faulty fuel gauge

does the little computer in the center console read your miles to empty fairly accurately (you have to put in a certain amount of gas before it resets) If so, then option 1 probably isn't the problem, because the car knows how much gas you have. I've done option 2, it was pretty easy. It fixed...

    Spare tire carrier

I just tapped the holes (from back first, then a pass from the front), as well as used a die on the bolts. The bolts can now be easily put in by hand. not sure how mine got boogered but, for the $12 I spent on a tap and die is about as cheap of a fix as you can hope for!

    3rd Gen Montero's --- Diff Issues

my driver's side rear axle came out of the diff an inch or so, caused a big leak of diff fluid in my driveway. I ended up pulling the axle from the diff, and bending the circlip ever so slightly haven't had the problem since. But the correct fix is to replace the axle shaft that goes into the...

my brother-in-law just moved to SLC.... I'm sure we will be going to visit him in the coming months, I'll ping you when I'm heading up that way to see if the seats are still available.... but don't save them just for me. My driver's seat is starting to get worn, I know your seats are not the...

DEATH VALLEY 2015: Lots of Rocks, Rusty stuff and more rocks.

Do you have the main selector in L? I find that helps quite a bit, there is less slippage in the torque converter.... the last time i went out i didn't have any problem with trans heating up.... but i did change gearing this summer to 4.63 from a '95 sr.

Rear carrier removal questions 99 montero

Thanks for sharing! My boots are starting to look cracked and was thinking I would just replace the whole assembly so I didn't have to mess with putting on a new boot.... but now, I might do the same as you and just get the existing CV joint/axles rebooted and packed (or likely do it myself)

    1998 Gen 2.5 - Brake Failure!

I've been thinking about adding a dash switch to break the circuit on the fuse to the ABS, so that I can force it to turn off. My ABS seems to be hit or miss when it deactivates. Some of the time, it does disable, but I've had times when the ABS is off after going to 4 low and using the rear...

Gen 3 floor mats - No weathertech or husky?

I had weather tech for a jeep grand cherokee I had.. they were great! The way the footwell of the jeep was shaped, I think it helped.. but you could basically spill a cup of coffee or two into the mat and it would be totally contained on 5 sides (front/back, left/right & bottom) they are...

Power Stop Rotors - Front - Gen 3

all good points.... This is for my wife's montero that likely won't see much off-road time.. but those are good points to consider, thanks!

Power Stop Rotors - Front - Gen 3

Doing pads and rotors all the way around on my '03 limited. I bought these for the front: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007KFNOM4 The amazon page doesn't do a good job of indicating that when you buy, you are buying a pair. So now i'm going to be getting an extra pair sent to me (1st pair...

    3.5L Water Temperature Gauge

What year Montero? The 00 and on have a common issue that isn't sensor related but is a problem with the gauge circuit. I posted a thread on it with a link to a YouTube video. Pm me if you can't find it, and I'll send it over once I'm back at a computer. The fix is pretty easy and takes...

    New guy with gen3 montero

My fuel gauge is problematic as well. But the miles to empty number with the compass thing seems to be accurate based on how many gallons I put in when it is in double digits. That being the case, I don't think the fuel sender is the problem. The problem is probably the gauge cluster. There...

    A couple 2000 Montero questions

The rear pumpkin from a 99 won't direct swap into an '00. It fits, but the axle shaft on the driver's side is just a little to long and won't allow for everything to come together correctly. I upgraded my '99's gears from 4.29 (stock) to 4.63 (from a 95sr). The extra gears I then sold to...
