anything else I should add to the list?

    2.5 driveshaft removal help?

you can do just about everything on the Montero with a combination of 10, 12, 14, 17mm wrenches and sockets. I'm guessing it's a 14 & 17mm, but it could be 14 & 12. **Edit, spell check changed "montero" to "monitor"

    Just bought a 3rd Gen!

I have the same kind of low idle thing with my '03 (but the 3.8L engine). It was so bad that the car would sometimes die if I had the AC on (it was hit or miss). This last week my Mass Airflow Sensor died. After replacing the MAF today (with one from the scrap yard), it seems to idle better...

1989 V6 - Servicing your Hydraulic Lash Adjusters.

I did the job when replacing valve seals as well in Jan/Feb 2013. I ended up going to a gas station that had diesel, and pumped a few cents worth of diesel into a container. When I popped my rocker arms, 2 of my lash adjusters fell apart, so if you plan on doing this job, expect to need to...

Gen 3 - Companion Flange Fell Out (A must read for Gen 3 owners)

the guy at the mistu parts place didn't seem very familiar with the issue, makes me concerned I would be getting the same part (albeit in new condition) to only have the same problem at some point in the future.

    Dangit i want some gauges!

If you can find one in a junk yard, you can probably pick up the whole cluster for 20-30 bucks. I don't know if the wiring exists, that would be the big problem There is a multi wire harness that plugs into the cluster that runs down behind the radio and hvac controls. Cluster is useless...

Gen 3 - Companion Flange Fell Out (A must read for Gen 3 owners)

Around 147k, no lift. Although we do have a steep driveway, and the way you enter it from the street can put some flex on the suspension. I'll probably pop the flange this weekend and take a look at the clip. I've seen people talk about the kit you're referring to, but it doesn't seem as...

Gen 3 - Companion Flange Fell Out (A must read for Gen 3 owners)

The wife texts me while I'm at work "the car is leaking oil", I ask her to send me a picture (see video/picture below). As it turns out, the rear companion flange on the driver's side had popped out. This seems to be a pretty common occurrence for the Gen 3. The circlip seems to wear out over...

    Igor's 2002 Montero gen 3 build

for the crank bolt, you can make one of these for less than 10 bucks. you need a hack saw and drill with the right sized bit (and a file to clean up the rough edges) You may need to flip the bolts that stick out to the other side.... on one side you get much more torque for tightening and the...

    Opinion on 2006 Montero

with 100k miles, I wouldn't risk it. Assume you are going to need to do the timing belt job. As a DIY, it's just a couple of hundred bucks in parts. As a job from the dealer, it's over a 1,000. Be sure to factor that into the price.

4.636 gears from an LS into a gen 2.5 with locker?

pulling up an old thread: Our 2nd kid on the way in February, the wife is in full "nesting" mode, and I'm getting pressured to store more stuff in the garage. This means I need to get moving on some things I have sitting around and get myself organized a bit. To that end, and to keep everyone...

    Death Valley Weekend - Nov 8-10 - 2013

Thanks guys! Death Valley is a great place for first timers and experienced alike. Obviously, with less experience in the area or desert travel, read up, check recent road conditions (rain can create havoc), and bring plenty of water and a buddy in another vehicle. I just took my DVNP map out...

Joinin' the Montero Club with a Gen 2.5

After 2 trips out to Death Valley, I've convinced 2 people myself to go on the Montero bandwagon. Pretty simple to unbolt the running boards, put on larger tires and you're good to go on a great adventure!

    Gen 3 Fuel/Temp Guage Fix

I'm still having some fluctuations in my fuel readings..... nothing that was as nerve racking as seeing the temp pegged to the top of the gauge though!

    Gen 3 debate, 3.5 or 3.8?

Almost the exact same thing happened to me with an 03 like 4 weeks ago. The CEL was due to rear cam seal and valve cover gasket leak. I had to replace the O2 sensor on the passenger side to get the CEL to go away, but also had to do valve covers and rear cam seal.... and turns out I didn't...

    Gen 3 Fuel/Temp Guage Fix

the 03 I picked up recently had this problem. this is a quick fix, and if you plug in your soldering iron when you start to pull the gauge cluster, you'll have the circuit board out just as the iron is getting up to temperature, thats how quick the fix is. this video might be helpful too...

OK mitsu guys... I need input.

at $450, even if you dump a grand into it, it's crazy cheap, and almost disposable.
