Montero - Gen 2.5, Reduced Power & Check Engine Light

I think there is something to be said for a device that is dedicated to one purpose. I get in, the thing is automatically up and running when the car is turned on. Doesn't matter if I'm driving or my wife, it's tracking economy, miles (to let me know when I should change the oil) and a plethora...

Montero - Gen 2.5, Reduced Power & Check Engine Light

nwoods, you should look at ultragauge, it's 60 bucks or so... but adds a lot of ODB2 monitoring (mpg, fuel usage, horsepower, torque figures, etc) and will give you code reads, plus give you a heads up if there is some sensor that is faulting that might be about to throw a code...

Instrument panel / Climate Control / Corner Lights flickering when braking. HELP!

undo the rear driver's tail light housing... behind that (at least in my '99) is a tail light converter... On my 99, it was daisy chained into the harness running to the tail light housing, making it pretty easy to undo and pull out of the loop. If that is the problem, you can buy another...

quick question for those running 35's

my ABS light usually comes on when hit 4wd low and goes a few miles.... I thought this was the feature, but last time I was out on the trail, the ABS stayed on too long and gave me a few pucker situations on the down hill.... possible to add a switch to cut out the ABS on demand?

quick question for those running 35's

I'm at the 4.636 gears, but also recently pulled a pop-up camper trailer through Utah and Colorado. Running on my 33x10.5s, with the trailer, it was quite gutless as you mentioned even with the 4.636 gears. I'm sure the 4.90 gears would be helpful, but I wouldn't expect it to change things...

    Monteros on craigslist

I would say miles, with some records or indication as to when services were last done is no problem. Unless you're in a big hurry, a better deal will come along.

Gen 2.5 Mitsubishi Montero 2000 - Over-landing Family Truck - long term enhancement

If you're in SoCal, i've got a rear end with a locker and the 4.27 gears that came factory. They are in my garage waiting for the scrap yard or a home. You'll need to supply the air pump, but it will bolt right in. I upgraded to the 4.636 gears.

    Monteros on craigslist

If those types of things are important to you (location of service, etc), then the price might not be too high. But if you would rather have a few grand in your pocket and not know about every piece of service, then I would say move on down the line. You can find Monteros with the same miles...

    SoCal Salvage Yard Report

Are they worth trying to get? Seems like it might be possible to bring a jack and move the stands the thing is sitting on. Do they unbolt or could they be welded on?

    strange overheating on Gen 2.5

I can cruise and cruise on the freeway at any temps with no problem.... but when I was going up mountains in colorado, even coming up the grapevine back to LA I noticed that if I was pushing higher RPMs (4k+) to keep speed going up a hill, my temp would start to climb. It never went too high...

Gen 2.5 "stop all the leaks" project starts today. Holly ********......

first off, you'll want to visit http://www.mitsubishilinks.com/, many answers you seek are found within. Second, if you're into mechanical and electrical, I don't think you'll have any problems. I haven't done the rear seals, but I did buy a montero last year that needed a head gasket job...

    2.5 4x4 question

the flashing lights is a normal thing.... I wouldn't worry about it too much, but something you would want to figure out. Engaging 4 wheel drive is a mechanical process, the lights you're seeing are just an electrical sensor that isn't properly sensing. If you have the transfer case lever in...

I don't have much familiarity with the gen 1s, but you might want to also poke around 4x4wire.com, there are likely articles with exactly what you're looking for over there.

    High Altitude...

just returned back to near sea level in Los Angeles... the elevation makes a big difference... but so does a popup trailer and truck loaded with camping equipment/food/luggage for 2 adults, 1 dog (120lbs) and one 15 month old (23ish lbs). I did unhitch the trailer and drive around at 7k+ feet...

    High Altitude...

I did unhook the trailer today and tool around. The weight of the trailer is really zapping the peppieness of the Montero. Although I'm up at 6000k feet, it doesn't feel too much like it without the trailer. The big thing at altitude is to match your gearing with your tire size. If you...

    High Altitude...

I'm out on a week long journey across Utah/Colorado/Wyoming. I am pulling a small pop up tent trailer with some camping equipment. Plus my dog (Great Dane), wife, 15 month old, and clothes, food, toys, etc. My impression is that he Montero (gen 2.5) has a lot of difficulty keeping highway...

P0450 and lots of pressure when removing the gas cap - on the road in Utah

oh hey, you're in Utah too! I'm in Vernal... this is about where I wanted to be at the end of Day 2 and not the end of day 3... but day 1 didn't start with 9am on the road... it started with 4pm on the road. I sure am glad I went with at least the 4.63 gears I can't imagine this on 33s with...

P0450 and lots of pressure when removing the gas cap - on the road in Utah

Up at the near opposite corner from St George tonight. Might have to use a blanket. Whatever the problem was, it never came back. That was the strangest thing. The pending code alarm didn't come back on either. The only problem I'm having now is the lack of power at these higher...
