OVRLND CAMPERS ONLY : Post your OVRLND Camper build here or a link to your build thread to inspire others!

Not sure if this applies to non-Tundras, but FWIW I’m still dealing with clamps, and they don’t budge over lots of rough offroad. I still check ‘em, but they’re never loose after the first couple months and a few tightenings. They are still annoying as far as being in the way occasionally, but...

3rd Gen Tacoma for towing - manual vs. automatic?

Can't speak to MT, but the AT/Tranny combo diff Gear Ratio in the 3rd Gen Tacomas is reputed to really need re-gearing to function well loaded, modified, or towing. I’ve driven, but not owned a stock 3rd gen and it was noticeably anemic compared to my 2nd in terms of performance. Nitro Gear...

After 8 years in a full size, moving back to a mid-size - Recommendations?

This ⬆️ I loved my 2nd Gen, but the seats killed my back. Had to use an insert. Likely depends on your height — I’m 6’3”. One of the two big reasons I ended up in Tundra.

    Family Mosquito Control

The company InsectShield, which treats all of the insect repellent clothing, you buy at REI and other places, will sell you a bag or two or three (they’re cheaper in multiples, but not exactly cheap) which you can stuff with as many clothes as you can fit. We had good luck fitting a tremendous...

New guy with a couple questions.

It’s not the swaybars that are hard it’s the damn TRD pro skid plate over them, but yeah, that’s the plan. My old Tacoma didn’t have them after lifting it and it was fine loaded, though it did wallow a bit, so I have dealt with the change before — just without the camper. Shouldn’t have any...

New guy with a couple questions.

Thanks @rruff! That’s what I was hoping to hear. My load is pretty low down too and in the back seats as well. I’ve got a trip with many rough off-road miles coming up and pretty sure, I’m gonna ditch the swaybars for it. Will be very interested to see more build details on your rig . . .🍿

OVRLND CAMPERS ONLY : Post your OVRLND Camper build here or a link to your build thread to inspire others!

I had an ’06 DC Tacoma pre-runner that got me into tons of places I didn’t think it could. Traded it on an ’09 TRD OR 4wd to up my odds of getting back out of those places too! I get it, its a hard decision process. I really wanted to put an Ovrlnd on my ’09 Tacoma as it was built out and I...

Sanity Check: Sell my '04 GX to move into a 2018+ Tundra?

I went through the same angst about giving up my built ’09 Tacoma. Long story short, I love the Tundra even more. More robust, more power, (far) more comfortable — both the truck itself as well as it’s ability to support the camper. Also, as capable as the Tacoma with similar mods, albeit a...

New guy with a couple questions.

@rruff any feedback on how your rig handles with the weight and higher COG of the camper and without your front sway bar? I’m on the verge of removing mine. Not too concerned with my suspension and my experience with Tacoma and no sway bar, but I’m certainly heavier now and while the load is...

Composite camper - aluminum extrusion vs. FRP edges

This was the van they started with and rounded the edges first to get their intital results. A boxy camper on a truck would see less result certainly because you’re starting with a more streamlined shape given the nose of the truck and the windshield rake, but it can still be a considerable drag...

Composite camper - aluminum extrusion vs. FRP edges

I can see why you came to that conclusion, but the streamlining shown in that image is addressed later regarding the front of the cab. There’s a far more detailed many page PDF of their research I’m struggling to find, but have read in the recent past. They started with a perfectly square box...

Composite camper - aluminum extrusion vs. FRP edges

One aspect of Option A to consider is aerodynamics. A huge amount of our fuel inefficiency is due to the drag of the big boxes on the back of our trucks on the highway. As fuel costs continue to go higher they may be a bigger detriment to getting out there than some minor thermal bridging...

New guy with a couple questions.

You’re welcome! The 8020 website has tons of info, calculators, etc. IIRC, series 10 (1”), which I used is .5 lb per foot. I weighed all the material I ordered for my build, including fasteners still in the shrink wrap and it was 45 lbs, but that also included 12’ of extra for other projects...
