Haven't done mine yet, but I assume those C pieces move forward and backward (left and right in your image). If the shift lever moves forward in the cab, they would move the opposite direction (sam for left and right).
Someone did say something about making sure the shifter is in 2wd when...
I picked up the inclinometer too! the housing from the gen 2.5 isn't big enough to fit the inclo gauge, so you have to use the housing from the SR (not a big deal), but I didn't want altimeter, so I was going to swap over my oil pressure gauge... you need to drill holes in the SR gauge cluster...
SR front picked!
the kicker is that the only reason I grabbed the diff from the LS was that it was easier.... if the engine was there on that LS, I probably would have just picked the front and rear from the SR the first time around.
anyone want a an LS front diff with 4.636 gears, real...
Justice knows his stuff.... Just went out and measured the ring gear. There isn't even room for anything 8 inches inside the front diff. Ring gear is clearly 7.25"
No worries billygoats, I'll check on a swap, but I'm not holdings breath. Hopefully the SR is still at the yard. Now that I know...
from this: http://www.arb.com.au/media/products/air-lockers/application_chart.pdf page 9 of the pdf page 7 of the document
it really comes down to the size of the ring gear.... if I picked an 8" ring gear, I should be in the clear. I know what I'm doing first thing in the AM!
I'll dig around on the wire and the fitment chart.. I did notice that the diff sizes for the front from the FSM didn't have sizes....
Good idea for a quick sanity check.
checking out the FSM for the 92-95, the fronts for the 24 valve appear to be the same. The rear is different though between the 3.0 24 valve (LS) and the 3.5 24 valve (SR)
As long as the front has the 4.636 gears, it is looking the same... now the rear, that needs to come from an SR wit the...
:(
are we talking diff housing, gear sizes? should I just trudge back to the junk yard and get the front off of the 94SR and scrap everything about the LS?
Good information to know! This LS was a 95. Is there a way to take outside measurements and compare between the diffs so I don't unbolt something to replace with something that won't fit?
the locker is fully contained within the differential gearing. pull it as one unit (like what you see in my picture) and it will have the locker included.
kirk, you're pretty much doing exactly what I'm doing. Here are a couple of photos from my instagram of the parts I pulled last weekend. The rear is HEAVY AS ALL GET OUT! so be ready.... keep the sway bar in place and use it to hold the gears while you let it down slowly. I pulled an extra...
be sure to post up what mods you do. I was thinking of a couple of things that would help quite a bit, but don't have the tools necessary to strengthen.
Looks like you're in a similar situation to me. Out a couple of weekends ago and I bashed my transfer case cover in to the point that it was touching the transfer case. Although, I'm not sure if it was this time, or something from last time.
I picked up a new plate from the parts pick place...
I'll probably give it a go this weekend. I also want to do ball join on passenger side, and I'll probably do tie rod ends as well... then it's off to the shop for alignment and 33s..... Although, I kind of would like to see how the 33s and 4.2x gears feel... so maybe I'll have the new wheels...
I was going to remove the front gears and only keep those, but as it was just as easy to pull the whole thing out, thats the way I went. I'm sure some debris from the parts yard got in, so I just want to make sure it's all cleaned up.
The LKQ, while having advantages like online inventory...
No real issues... was much easier than I thought it would be... Biggest problem was figuring out what I needed to unbolt on the front... Because the diff/axle mount was already cut, it came out pretty easy. and by undoing the ball joints, I was able to slide the axles out without having to...
