got the gears pulled... is there any reason I just don't install them as is? I have the full front diff, and have the rear snout piece with all of the diff bits attached.
This seems like it would get around the difficult process of shimming and checking everything... Although, I would...
I should be able to remove the rear without taking the tires off, right? the SR has wheel locks, and I can't find the key. It looks like I should be able to unbolt the flange that holds everything to the axle from the back side... unless those nuts are welded onto the back side of the flange.
Is it possible to swap the 4.636 gears from an LS with 4.636 gears into my 99 with the 4.2xx gears?
I don't want to lose my locking ability, so can I swap over all of the necessary locking bits?
A local parts pick place has an LS with the engine and drive train yanked... should make it much...
Thanks! Any reason to not have an equalization line between the two bags so they maintain equal pressure? Or if one bag gets under load, will that increase the pressure on the other bag?
might be a bit of a pain, but flickr now allows for a crazy amount of photos to be uploaded for free. A few years back that wasn't the case. Better than photobucket by a mile
Did you pull all of the fuses at the same time, then put each back in one at a time? If you pulled each fuse, and then replaced it before pulling the next, perhaps something is tied to two fuses incorrectly, so puling one fuse only keeps the power running on the 2nd.
I would pull every fuse at...
can you throw up another picture or two from the front with the wheels straight. I was thinking about going 9.5 vs 10.5, but I don't want it to look odd.
what size tire are you coming from?
I want to install some aux switches in the blank spots to the right of the steering column. I picked up one of these on Amazon, it almost fits, but not quite... and has since fallen back into the dash somewhere.
This is the switch...
One tip I read one time was to do everything in 2wd until you got stuck, then use 4wd to get yourself out. I think I would agree if traveling alone, a winch is something likely to save you vs lockers... lockers will just let you get deeper into trouble.
In my limited experience, the lockers are the most helpful for you, and the winch is more helpful for your buddy who got himself stuck :sombrero:
I feel like lockers are the way to go initially, they are likely to get you through any difficult spot. If you can't make it with lockers, someone...
when I need the vin, and I'm too lazy to walk down to my garage... I look up my insurance cards on allstate's website. They have the Vin printed on them.
What year?
