    Connecting with the Montero

I've had similar experiences in long climbs that aren't particularly difficult, just slow. In D the torque converter seems to be pretty loosely connected to the transfer case... but in L it seems to be pretty well locked together. As an example, in D, drive up to about 15 mph (from a stop) and...

    Death Valley - March 7th, 8th & 9th 2014

WHAT!??!?! That would have been awesome! But I don't think anyone tried, I'll bet it was unlocked.

    Death Valley - March 7th, 8th & 9th 2014

@bikerjosh, thanks! I think he is mostly sock, looks to have slightly oversized tires (more of a street tread), and the offroad package which includes a rear locker.

    Death Valley - March 7th, 8th & 9th 2014

Link had driven all the way from the air-down spot just after we turned onto Warm Springs Road to about the middle of Butte Valley. Rhett was now behind the wheel as we left the Geologist's Cabin and headed toward the infamous Mengal Pass. Not too far past the cabin we came across one of the...

    Death Valley - March 7th, 8th & 9th 2014

--- Day 3 --- That night there thankfully weren’t any other big blasts of wind, or at least none that woke me up. The next morning (Sunday), everyone was up just a little after sunrise. I scrambled up one of the sides of the canyon about 50 feet or so and snapped this picture of camp. We...

    Death Valley - March 7th, 8th & 9th 2014

--- Day 2 --- One of the big draws I used to get Link and Rhett out to the desert was the tale of this mythical oasis in the middle of one of the harshest places on earth. True to form, when the sun came up, the groups of palm trees and soaking tubs were finally visible. Although the lower...

    Death Valley - March 7th, 8th & 9th 2014

Back on Death Valley road, we descended into Eureka Valley, turned of the paved road toward Eureka Dunes and on to the worst washboarded roads we would face all weekend. The dunes rise up 700 feet from the valley floor and are the tallest dunes in all of California. At the dunes (at least on...

    Death Valley - March 7th, 8th & 9th 2014

Read the parallel trip report from bikerjosh --Day 1-- After a really great weekend of overlanding through Death Valley back in November 2013 I couldn’t wait to get away from Los Angeles and out to the desert again. I also knew that I wanted to share the experience with some friends...

my aluminum roof rack project, thanks to Gaston

So all of these racks attach to the "gutters" (can't think of the right work right now), how much weight are those things really able to support? Clearly the mount points for the factory roof rack (gen 2.5) don't hold all that much weight. I checked out an '00 that had the rear drivers mount...

New to Montero's, need help with keyless remote programming

mind posting a link to what you found? might be helpful for someone in the future. Also, depending on what level of overlanding you're planning on.... the running boards are probably one of your next things to remove.

Joinin' the Montero Club with a Gen 2.5

If/when I replace the head unit, I was going to find the wire that makes the power antenna go up and put it on a switch. That way I could have the the radio on, but have the antenna down. Don't really need the antenna for music streaming from my iphone.

    ARB bumper up for grabs...

All the better, now I don't have to figure out how to explain $400 "upgrade" to my wife :-)

    ARB bumper up for grabs...

Is the bolt up pattern the same from Gen 2.0 to 2.5? I have a brush guard now, but would really like to go with the ARB. Would let me then put in a body lift and not have silly looking gaps where the bumper and body should line up.

    $40 BaoFeng UV-5R Dual-Band Handhelds

I'm on a mac, and I think I have the knock off cable. there are a few special things you need to type in at the terminal to make the cable work. I don't remember where I found it, possibly a link from the chirp website. Do some google'n, you'll find it.

    '98 Montero, intake manifold questions

you will find all the torque specs you could ever want here: http://www.mitsubishilinks.com/ I didn't use any sealant on the lower intake or valve cover. perhaps just some oil on the valve cover to help it make good contact. I feel like I remember it leaking a bit for the first few hours I ran...

    POOR MONTERO!

I can imagine how the airlift would work for the rear, but what about for the front?
