I got a guy on CL selling what I think is a "stock" montero brush guard. Thinking about mounting it up on my gen 2.5. I know all about the extra damage they could cause by being pushed into body work, etc, etc.... I'm not really all that concerned about that bit... I just like the look.
I've...
I was a little sad that it didn't come out as awesome as I remembered that reflection being.... Probably better that the photo is never as good as the real thing.
My settings for the photo of the rig with the roof-top tent where 24mm F7.1 ISO 2000 30 second exposure (updating my original posting in a moment). I think I tried higher F numbers, but wasn't able to expose within the 30 seconds.
Even at 30 seconds some star trails are visible, but only...
I'm pretty sure LR has some noise reduction things built in (at least in the newer versions). Even at a lower ISO, with the shutter open for a long time, you'll still get some noise. In this case, the noise was a lot of red dots, so lowering the red saturation (or redness) of the photo took...

This is a side thread from http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/118903-Death-Valley-Weekend-Nov-8-10-2013, someone asked what I used for these three night shots. Instead of hijacking my own adventure story thread, I figured I would start up something over here.
All of the photos from...
Day 2 - Part 3 of 3
We drove forward another ¼ mile and stopped again, just past the thick dust area. Everyone was out of their rigs and taking some photos. I let the dogs out for a quick walk. Although the sun hadn’t fully set, we were close enough to the Inyo mountains that we were fully...
Day 2 - Part 2 of 3
The 5-6 mile route on Racetrack Road were some of the roughest washboard sections we would encounter. We ended up passing a few vehicles coming the opposite direction that seemed to have no business this far out. Later that night while reading the NPS flyer for Death...
Day 2 - Part 1 of 3
-- Start of Day 2 --
Even before the sun broke the horizon, the dogs were moving about the tent and making their little whining noises, subtly letting me know that if they didn't get outside soon, then things were going to get wet inside the tent. Although I was only...
As we rounded a bend, perched up in the saddle between a couple of peaks, sat the remains of a gigantic tram that once carried salt 14 miles down into Keeler. The tram carried the salt from 1100 feet in the Saline Valley, up and over 8500 feet, and then back down to 3600 feet at Keeler, making...
I could see off in the distance, a small dust cloud being kicked up by Josh’s 4Runner as he motored up an incline about ½ a mile long, until he reached the ridge line and disappeared. Moments later I hear his voice on the radio mentioning that we should stop, and check out this next section of...

From what I was seeing in the FSM, a california montero has 2 extra cats, one just after each exhaust manifold. They are quite hidden from view, but you should be able to pull them out without anyone noticing, but you'll likely need to add on to the exhaust manifold. But you might have a...
