    Heater/Furnace Sizing

Our box is 18'X8'X7', 2 1/2" composite walls, 4" composite floor, 3" composite roof. Heat is a Webasto ThermotopC. Cabin heat from 2 cabin large radiators and one crawl space radiator. Last year in -20C I kept the cabin at 20C using 4 liters every 24 hrs at 0C to -5C that fuel consumption...

    1994 Mercedes 917AF - Looks pretty clean $35K

The 917AF designation is 9 tonne, 170 hp, All wheel drive, Fire truck. They were sold to fire services, military and private buyers. Looks like this one was never a fire truck, the paint looks original and kms are too high for a fire truck. Higher kms not bad at all, fire trucks that sit tend to...

    1124 AF Double Cab

The first change we made was eliminating the flushing toilet and black tank and adding a composting toilet, Natures Head. Five years of living with it and could not be more happy. Two adults require emptying the urine tank every second day, the compost every 5-8 weeks. I would advise you...

    Thermo Top heat circuit

The coolant should not be hot enough to cause a failure in the water tank. The best solution though is to be able to bypass any part of the system, including HWT.

    1120 AF Build in Norway

You Just described our truck! The high front wheel arches combined with the stainless apron work around the box make it look like the rear is low. I spent a lot of time measuring and checking before I figured out it is just an optical allusion!

    1124 AF Double Cab

When placing your vents and skylights don't forget your solar panel layout. I would go with a composting toilet over the incinerator.

    Aluminum vs steel

Composite boxes have been around for decades. Built right they are incredibly strong. Our truck is 27 years old with over 400000 kms no issues. Super strong box. Steel and Al transfer heat, composite is the best option for a 4 season box.

AGM battery quality vs cost. Do your research.

It is a thread advising low cost AGM batteries are the best choice. Wrong on the low cost and wrong on the AGM. Don't take this bad advice. Take the good advice: do your research, and research does not come from manufacturers websites!

Thoughts on the Truckhouse Tacoma expedition camper...

The front facing windows were a major leak issue with the original Sunraiders. The truck looks great but pricing and GVW add up to a concept vehicle only.

The Sunraider that inspired it came with a one ton rear axle.

Using a flooded starter battery for dual battery install and some deep cycling

Any battery that is advertised as a "starter/deep cycle" is not a true quality deep cycle. It is marketing BS. The difference between starters and deep cycle is the thickness of the plates, they can't be both thick and thin at the same time!

    Truck Bed Camper vs Van/Motorhome

Our MB 917AF has a very flexy frame, and is about the same size as the C700. The box is a rigid mount, Mercedes approved. So the frame is held straight by the box. There is still quite a bit of movement between the cab and box. It would take a lot of engineering to design a one piece cab camper...
