The 5th (ish) Gen Ram HD love/hate thread

I agree with this 100%. The dial shifter thing is super strange to me and not what I want in a truck. I'm fine with it in cars, although I've never owned a car with one, it's fine in theory. Before I bought my last truck I didn't even look at ram trucks as I thought they all moved to the dial...

The 5th (ish) Gen Ram HD love/hate thread

I don't have the 12" screen, and at times I wish I had got it. That said, I have heard horror stories of how many bugs the pervious version of the 12" screen can be, so that alone would scare me. The uconnect 5 should be much better from the processing power version at least, so hopefully less...

The 5th (ish) Gen Ram HD love/hate thread

You can likely tune the MDS off using alfaobd, a tazer or custom tunes. I've been able to on basically every truck I've owned. If I were planning on keeping the vehicle forever I'd prob do an MDS delete kit at some point to remove a potential failure point, but I'm unsure if the newer systems...

switching from a 4runner to a full size?

Makes sense. I'd imagine it's less of an issue off road with "pop up" campers that either either super light (go fast camper) or lighter (four wheel camper) than your setup. Appreciate the info, 2500 is a lot of weight for sure, especially one of those really large in bed campers.

switching from a 4runner to a full size?

I assume you mean offroading and not offloading, unless that is a term I'm not familiar with. If so, what camper and what sort of reduced capability.

2021 RAM 3500 Tradesman | AEV Prospector | FWC Grandby

Pretty slick idea. I guess it makes sense if you're using them all the time to have quick access to them. I wonder how hard it is to get them back into the little mount once there is dirt/snow/mud packed into them? Not for nothing but at 20lbs and $220 (with discount) more than the standard...

Ram 3500 High Output Cummins Build on 37's

It's an aftermarket billet intake plate. from OP's comment, I'm guessing they purchased this version to avoid the cost from the Banks plate. Basically the plate removes the grid heater, which is known to clog on high horsepower applications. In it's place the Banks intake elbow uses a heater...

switching from a 4runner to a full size?

I agree with points that this is cyclical. Right now people that maintained jobs through the pandemic likely find themselves flush with cash from not doing all the things that were closed due to the pandemic. If no one was able to go out to bars, restaurants, vacations, trips, etc. they were...

What cool things are powered from your upfitter (aux switches)

Ditch lights are lights that are pointed to the left and right of the vehicle toward the front. Think of them as more extreme fog lights. A lot of people will mount them from the top of the hood near the A-pillar. IR lights are infrared lights, used for night vision devices but not visible with...

switching from a 4runner to a full size?

I almost bought a 4runner before I picked up my Ram. Love those things. Anyway, one item to note. Toyota isn't the only manufacture with a shortage right now, and 4runners seem to hold their value better than a lot of vehicles from what I've seen on the used market previously. If I were you...

switching from a 4runner to a full size?

I'm currently in a 19 CCSB ram 2500 cummins. I'm a huge fan of the truck overall. I'm also in the northeast, and while I can't comment on what "tight trails" mean for you guys out west, I can tell you that "tight trails" in new england seem to be the vast majority of what we have. Outside of...

What cool things are powered from your upfitter (aux switches)

I don't have any yet, but I'll share my plan, not in order. (I plan to use the switchpros 12 toggle unit) front locker rear locker air compressor for airing up air horn (don't @ me) front off road lights front ditch lights front IR lights off road reverse lights wigwags possibly a nighttime...

    FishinGuns’ 2500 Suburban Build Thread

Blackbear does a great job on tunes, if I were still in a GM gasser I'd not hesitate to have them tune mine again. Good looking rig!

    F350 Grille/Bumper Guard

I mean if your primary issue is that you can't use the ford winch I'm sure someone is wishing they bought the Ford winch setup. Just sell that, and then buy something new you can mount aftermarket. I love the fact the Ford offers a clean install winch in their diesel, but it is a bit...

    F350 Grille/Bumper Guard

This comment right here. Nothing you put on the front of your truck will save it from a bad hit, some may make it worse. That said, the difference you should be looking for is what will protect the engine bay, radiator, etc. so you can get home or get to "safety". I've seen very few non bumper...

Ram 3500 High Output Cummins Build on 37's

I like the DOR design, but I've gotta say it seems odd that the other design could actually warp the frame. The biggest thing I wonder about the DOR is how it affects the sway bar, seems like it bolts under the sway bar on the one side, but I don't see a spacer for the other, so the sway bar...

Semi urgent truck selection help needed

Fair enough. I'd worry about squeaky sounds from vinyl floor and husky mats, but if that's a non-issue I can see the appeal.

    F550 or Ram 5500 or ???

I have spent a lot, probably too much, time reading up on the CP4 vs CP3, failure rates, etc. I get where you're coming from but I don't think that Cummins forum is as active for the 5th gens as it is/was for prior versions. It may be better now but currently/previously HDrams was much more...

Semi urgent truck selection help needed

Can someone school me on the preference for the vinyl flooring? I'd assume that it doesn't have any water drains, and if so it's not like you can spray it out. I'd imagine that the carpet helps with sound and you can easily add husky liners to get the same protection while also being able to...

    Trail Pig 2018 PW Build

The storage issue is the exact reason I'm leery of those bedslides. Sure they are convenient but you lose a lot of width to them. Seems like you have a good amount of gear though so hopefully that is more or less max storage needs.
