What is necessary for overland travel?

Thisx2! Also, have the ability for self recovery, whether its a winch, good come-a-long, high lift, or good friends. If you travel mainly solo it requires more stuff. Of you always travel with others, a shovel, strap, and secure attachment point should do it. Being rescued from a stuck way...

    Tyler's Shower Build

I'll bet a few good coats of black plasti-dip would do the trick. It's also removable if needed.

The Fake Jeep Not a Real Cruiser Thread

Not disagreeing at all. My FJ is the first vehicle I've had with a selectable locker. I'm amazed at the difference it makes. Doh!I never thought about the Atrac still being active with the front locker unlocked. I have read quite a few threads in the blue room saying to go easy with the front...

How to Modify Vehicle Wiring - Starting with the DO NOTs

NEVER cut into the factory wiring harness to connect accessories. Always come off the battery with an accessory fuse block to build new circuits. Having to repair hay wired factory wiring sucks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Old Rovers Too Feeble?

I too have owned many different four wheel drives since the seventies. FJ-40, Scout, Bronco, Jeeps etc. They all had their charms and warts. My current one is a FJ Cruiser. It does it all and is reliable as a hound. It also gets 19-20 mpg. It is the best one I've had. It's like comparing...

The LR4 — Crossing America Offroad with Tom Collins at the helm!

I just hope LR gets enough positive feedback and sales from events like this to encourage them to keep the tradition alive and their future products off road worthy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The Fake Jeep Not a Real Cruiser Thread

The front and rear bumpers are both made by Aluminess. When I started setting it up, I wanted to keep the weight down as much as possible since I knew we would be heavily loaded most of the time. I was a little leery of going aluminum as I didn't know how well it would hold up to our constant...

WTB: 1985 Toyota SR5 Long Bed

Wow! I bought a new 4wd xtracab shortbed in '85. IIRC, I paid $8795 for it. I had the Marty Mcfly bumper on it and a 2" lift. I drove it 7 years and sold it to buy a tractor and regret it daily. If I wasn't making payments on the FJ, I'd be tempted to scarf this one up myself.

The Fake Jeep Not a Real Cruiser Thread

My wife and I had to make the same decision when our Disco committed suicide. We narrowed the choices to a JKUR or FJ Cruiser. Both had the capabilities we wanted, so we test drove both back to back. We went with the FJC due to it's road manners, and the additional towing capacity over the...

The LR4 — Crossing America Offroad with Tom Collins at the helm!

Welcome to Oregon, Land Rover.. Wow! That looks like a fricking solar flare! We went a lot of places in our D2 with the stock 18's, but I never aired down. That wheel just had too much pinch potential. Switching to the 16's helped so much. I can't imagine dealing with lo pro 20's. Sent...

    Completing the Continental Divide Trail

Woo Hoo! Double Rainbow! We arrived in Pie Town way after dark and set up camp. Both fuel cans were empty and we were down to 1/4 tank. The next morning we awoke to do some more exploring. One thing they don't have in Pie Town? Gasoline pumps. One thing they do have? Pie, and lot's...

    Completing the Continental Divide Trail

The next morning we had our coffee, and went to the Gila Cliff Dwellings with are new friend Bernie. He had camped by us, and turned out to be a very well traveled person. Scheryl and I both enjoyed his stories very much. We were now on the trails and ranch roads of central New Mexico. Due...

    Completing the Continental Divide Trail

Last year, my lovely wife and I set out to conquer the Continental Divide trail. This off pavement trail runs from Canada to Mexico and is approximately 2500 miles long with over 400,000 feet of elevation change along it's length. We ordered the maps from the Adventurecycling.org and downloaded...

Is the design of the 3.9/4.0/4.2/4.6 inherently bad?

My friend got the frame on his Toyota pickup warranted and it was 7 years old. They actually replaced the frame! Unthinkable the big issue is Toyota steps up after acknowledging a major issue. Rover- not so much. Examples: the disposable Freelanders, the tsb on the disco oil pumps, and now...
