Shotts' 1997 Lexus "Rock Crawler" buildup:

John, I have seen you smiling on stuff that is waaay more tippy than the average guy would be comfy with. OK, well... maybe not smiling, but not crying anyway :p I agree with the logic though. Clark - gawd that is a thing of beauty. NICE!

    Fridge/Freezers

That's cool. The only thing I'm not crazy about is that it runs on AAA batteries (not 12v). A fresh set will probably run that thermo for a long time though, so no biggie.

    Fridge/Freezers

I haven't seen any more specifically like the one I have, but any 12V thermometer with the little "outdoor" sensor should work fine. Or you could go all out and get a sweet LED digital Cyberdyne temp. gauge like the ExWest Taco has. Good find on the fridge deal. Man, you are gonna love it...

    Winch mount bumper

I agree. Very nice setup. I like how you didn't let the issue with the lever deter your mounting plans - you just modified it :ylsmoke:

    Expeditions West 2004 Tacoma

Sounds good. The Midi-valve from Watts has a press. loss chart on the 2nd page - it doesn't start to lose press. until about 7.5 GPM for the 1/2" and 5 GPM for the 3/8" size and then it's only 1 psi. The Nibco valve press. loss is not listed, but I don't imagine it is much different.

    Expeditions West 2004 Tacoma

Scott, I would just use a spring-loaded check valve like this , which can be installed in a vertical or horizontal position. I don't know what you plan to plumb the line with, but these are typically bronze - you can get them with standard pipe thread or or solder-end if you want to use copper...

    Awnings

Just for comparison, check out this one . I have no idea if it's any good, I had just seen them before and they claim to have good prices.

Almost a month, that's no good! I'm sure Mike will call you and take care of it.

    Fridge/Freezers

Ahhh, ok, thanks for answering my questions. ;) I mentioned the constant run-time just to clarify that the 10.8 hours isn't an absolute, but I can see using that for worst-case scenario. One more question - I noticed that on Day Two you started with more voltage than you ended with on Day One...

    Fridge/Freezers

I think that would be a waste of fuel and add unnecessary pollution to the beautiful skies of Baja ;) If you let the fridge flatten the battery, you will just reduce the life of the battery. If it's a deep cycle, it won't eat into the life cycle as much. If it's a starting battery, you will...

    Fridge/Freezers

BM, I definitely wouldn't risk running one for 2-3 days on a battery that is used for starting and running the vehicle. There are too many variables involved. If you want to take a fridge on your Baja trip and don't have time to set up an aux. battery, just borrow or buy one of those portable...

    Auxiliary lights

If the extra cost isn't a big deal for you, and the massive size doesn't bother you (make sure they will fit where you want them) I would get the 240's. They have the same bulb as the 170's, just a larger diameter reflector (obviously). Although I didn't get to compare a 170 side-by-side with a...

FZJ80 and Tacoma. Evaluating the choice

I have encountered the same scenario, and it's not too bad if you have a roof rack that you can pack the wet/muddy stuff on until you have time to clean it and dry it out. I also carry some plastic tarps for when I need to put something dirty/messy in the back on top of the cargo deck. I think...
