Is My Dometic RM190 Done For?

I was cruising Amazon for replacements last night when I stumbled on a troubleshooting instruction in a listing for a stand-alone absorption fridge. Simply turn it over for 8 hours, and right it for another 8 before lighting it up again. Why not? This is a Hail Mary; I have nothing to lose...

Dometic 3way only lights on 5

If it's like mine, it has a bypass screw in the thermostatic valve that allows the flame to stay lit after the interior of the fridge reaches set temperature and the thermostat cuts the flow of gas to the burner. These screws, according to the service literature I've read, can get dirty and...

Is My Dometic RM190 Done For?

This is in my '85 Alaskan 8' CO, and the burner does everything it should: lights, stays lit, heats the boiler. After reading a period service manual for this fridge, I've established the refrigerant isn't circulating; the boiler jacket halfway up is hot, while the coils next to it are not...

    Alaskan 8.5' on a 6.5' bed, F150 ?

DO NOT plan to set an Alaskan 8.5 on a half-ton pickup-- you'll crush it like a bug. My 8' made my Dodge 2500 handle like the good ship Lollypop, and even has my 1-ton IH sitting on its overload springs. These effects are from an '85 Alaskan; the newer ones are heavier.

    Battery Isolator Location?

The previous owner was a fire department in Arkansas, and it was missing its engine-to-frame ground, IIRC. It's been 2 1/2 years since we did the teardown on it, so I don't remember clearly. It does, however, have a 2AWG ground in that spot now. Nice-- the Simpson Method: "It doesn't reach...

    Battery Isolator Location?

It is most definitely a 1-wire GM-style 10si alternator, as mentioned previously. I am very familiar with a switched power circuit, having wired many over the years including several on this present project (additional fuel pump, Vintage Air A/C, etc.). I was referring to the alternator...

    Battery Isolator Location?

Thank you for the reply. I'll know this weekend what size that wire actually is. I like the the idea for powering a winch, I'll make a mental note of that (even though I don't have space for a bumper-mount winch, and don't have the back for a receiver-mount one). Thank you for your reply--...

    72 IH + ‘85 Alaskan = Questionable Judgment...

On to addressing what I considered the biggest problem this camper had: cabover deflection. Previously, when I would climb into it to raise & latch the cabover panels, my weight would deflect it downward to the point I couldn’t lock the panels open if I kneeled more than one foot from the inside...

A few weeks later, I borrowed my buddy’s 6” gutter trailer, and bought the IH hood back to paint it: After a wash, I undercoated the inside: And unearthed a relic of its past while sanding: I googled that, and found it’s in Centerville, AR. I also found they’d misspelled “Galla”...

Then I took time out to reacquaint with the motivation behind all this work: I’m sick of towing and sleeping in that cargo trailer. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

    Battery Isolator Location?

I have a positive cable running to the back of my IH project truck that I want to use to charge the 2 group 31 AGM's that I'll be using for house power, and I want to install an isolator. The cable was installed for for fire-fighting equipment (power hose reel, I think), is connected to the...

Next task was vent replacement. The old ones were broken in various annoying ways, so they had to go. I got my staging set up, and found that my extension plank wouldn’t fit on the top of the ladders because of the hinge rivets, and the next rung down was too low. I tried airing the tires...

Interior Pirelli seal replacement was next: With fewer linear feet of seal within easy reach to replace, it went pretty quickly. I couldn’t replace the portion of seal behind the closet, though; it’s impossible to get to: Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
