I need help in deciding which Cruiser to buy...another 80 or another 100:

Oh man, this is too funny. I actually woke up in bed last night for some weird reason... thinking to myself "you shouldn't have suggested a buggy to Shotts - you know he isn't into that. He is all about doing his stuff in a Land Cruiser." LOL!! I'm dead serious! So yes, I retract that...

I need help in deciding which Cruiser to buy...another 80 or another 100:

John, I think your last comments are indicating that you may be considering what Scott and I mentioned... and that could be good. I understand that you need a vehicle for the kids (damn, what LUCKY KIDS!!!!) and so no issues there. If you don't mind giving them your current 80, that will be a...

Tire Inflators - Which to get?

I think the MV-50's are obviously a great bargain, but they have yet to prove themselves over the long-term. I also know the duty-cycle and overheating has been annoying some people. Can't beat the price though. I have had excellent luck with my QuickAir II. It is not the fastest compressor...

    Too many accessories....

Chuck, I found with my Tacoma that there wasn't much room under the dash anywhere that is out of sight. I ended up putting one fuse block on the firewall inside the engine bay, and another mounted to the sheetmetal on the inside of the front driver fender, next to the battery. I really like the...

    Capacity of shell-mounted roof rack

Hi Erin, I haven't heard of any racks failing (so far) so I am not sure of any to tell you to avoid. What I would suggest though, is going with the lightest rack that will reliably carry the load you need it to. For quite a lot of people, the Yakima load warrior basket, or similar works well...

    How Much Power Inverter?

I think something people may want to keep in mind is the weight. Larger inverters weigh more, so if you are a weight pinching fool who is flirting with your GVWR (like me) then you may do well to go with only the biggest inverter that you anticipate a need for out on the trail. I run as much as...

    Simple storage solutions

I like the idea that 60seriesguy is working on. When you say cargo net across the top - I am picturing the net suspended horizontally, like a "gear loft" kind of thing. Is that what you mean? I am actually thinking about trying that out for my camper too. I have started adding some eyelets to...

    Capacity of shell-mounted roof rack

Hi Adam, Ahhh, now I know who you are :) Yes, I think you will do just fine with the top track system. In fact, I would have gone that route myself with the ARE shell, had it not been for the fact that I already had the Yakima tower system, and I knew the shell would be safe with the side...

    Expeditions West 2004 Tacoma

Scott, the new stuff looks fantastic  Vince, I have never heard of a hard dirt glaze. Maybe some dirt packed on the sides of the shoes, but not on the braking surface. Thanks for the tip on the TRD pads. I don't think they make the rear brake shoes.

I need help in deciding which Cruiser to buy...another 80 or another 100:

LOL!! Scott, I came very close to typing something very similar on the 1st page of this thread. HOWEVER, I was being a nice guy and listening to what John said was important to him, and biting my lip in respect of that :p He said he didn't want to thrash the 100 (which is what he will do if he...

I need help in deciding which Cruiser to buy...another 80 or another 100:

Are you sure? Yea, it's bigger, but you get the V8 you want. Allrighty the, here you go. A '97 LX with 56K miles on it. You can drive it home from Texas and break out the sawzall. But you will need to verify if it has the lockers, and you will likely miss having the V8.

I need help in deciding which Cruiser to buy...another 80 or another 100:

Well John, I think you will have to make a sacrifice of some kind no matter what you end up with. (but the LX does sounds like maybe the best shot at the least sacrifice?) You get the 100, you will sacrifice the hard-core capability of the 80 front axle. You get the 80, you will sacrifice the...

I need help in deciding which Cruiser to buy...another 80 or another 100:

John, besides the luxo interior, what is it that makes you like the 100 so much more for a road trip? Does it have anything to do with the IFS? Because I am thinking you could do the 80 and you can always get some hi-quality seats and dress up the interior more. You would have the solid front...

    Defender 90?

Thanks so much guys. Here's to you  Well, I started going through Graham's site and there are a lot of road logs to read and photos to look at :lurk: This will take awhile. Graham, did you ever weigh your 110 while it was loaded for the big Africa trip?

    Capacity of shell-mounted roof rack

I have used a Wilderness roof rack, sitting on top of Yakima cross bars, fastened to the sides of a fiberglass shell, for about 7 years. I have had two shells, the first being a "Vista" brand, and the current one being an "ARE" brand. I have carried varying amounts of weight on a multitude of...

    Expedition Vehicle. Priority on modifications

Henry, I am guilty on all counts. Not due to ignorance as much as just willing to accept the risk. I have taught my wife to drive my truck and think she could do so in an emergency, but she avoids any practice whatsoever, so the success or failure of any given attempt would remain a toss-up...

FZJ80 and Tacoma. Evaluating the choice

Don't you find it hard to type? The same? Wow, I don't know if that is good or bad. I got the worse mileage I have ever had when I went up to that area on the way to the Nevada Trophy. It was terrible.

    Jump-N-Carry Jumpstarter

Before I had my aux. battery system, I used to carry a spare 12V automotive battery and maintenance charge it by plugging it into the cigarette lighter using a pair of alligator clips and and a cig-lighter adapter plug :Wow1: . It rode in the back of the truck, secured inside the cargo deck. Not...
