A Note to all: FWIW - I am a 3D industrial designer by trade. I design stuff for a living. For reference, the following is my website:

This trailer project is my playtime. So I am happy to share this with the forum as I have no intentions on taking this design...
Thanks Matt... the concept is in FormZ. It's a professional 3D industrial / architectural modeling software.
I will be creating the plans in the coming days. I can then export those to AutoCAD with ease. You are welcome to them. I will need a little time get it all in order.
I am planning...
Uh oh...running into a problem. Any suggestions on where I could have the tent portion made? I contacted a recommended source suggested from the Equipment area. Acme Tents in Colorado - no dice. Since I am Atlanta, they think it is too far away. Then I called SpringBar - No dice. They...
Interesting. Could be problematic with the need for an entry door. The side "pods" would be almost the entire length. Structurally it could certainly be done. Hmmmm...makes me ponder a bit.
Funny, I just had a conversation about these with the wife. Like the idea, not the weight, overall size or lack of off-road ability. Personally, / I think they are a great concept. If you are looking for a nice sized travel trailer, these would be ideal. Although, new...the prices are rather...
Greetings all,
I have a 60 gal vertical air compressor that needs a new home. Since I relocated back to ATL, it has been sitting but it is in perfect condition. I used it plenty when I lived in St. Louis. Never a problem. I could swap a full set of tires before the motor would kick on to...
Ladies and gents...I believe I have found a winner. :wings:
The side opening flip top wins. Simpler design, easier to create a weatherproof seal. Next up...create a parts list and a budget. I am anticipating the build time to be a good number of weeks. My goal is to get it completed and...
LOL... :coffeedrink:
I thought seriously about keeping the trailer coupled to the rig. Makes sense. I might simplify the design and do the single flip top but make it got out to the side.
Concept 3 is cool, but could pose problems due to the complexity of the closure. Sealing it from rain...
Nathan - This might make you smile.
My daughter came down to my office and saw the concept. Upon seeing the upper loft, she says - "Ew...I have to sleep with my brother?!"
Piece of mind is everything... So I offer Concept 3.
Details:
- Upper sleeping lofts are 29"w x72" long
- The flip...
The plan was to separate the vehicle from the trailer. However, there is no reason the flip top could not be located on the side on the main cabin. The only caveat being, the tent would be larger and likely cost more to fabricate.
Thanks for the compliments all. I most certainly plan on...
Thanks Pat. The design is being created in FormZ. It is an industrial/architectural design software.
Here is the latest. The details are coming together in the galley. At the moment, it is being designed to accommodate a Coleman Extreme cooler. But eventually, the forward storage box will...
Howdy folks...
I was up pretty late last night working on round II. There were a couple of items on the concept that I wanted addressed. They were the following:
- overall size vs what trailer frames are readily available
- functionality
- ease of build
Here is concept II. It is slightly...
