Sadly I didn’t put gauges on it before we left as I figured it was bone stock so leave it alone...so don’t know boost numbers. Could be stuck open wastegate or turbo vanes. The exhaust brake (which is just the vanes closing) still works so I’m hopeful it’s not that. Hoping to camp by a diesel...
Thanks. I’ve been focused on the exhaust side but I’ll check the Intercooler boots now. Limped it to Whitehorse by disconnecting exhaust after down pipe. Didn’t change much. Everything appears closed in Whitehorse on a Sunday so might not be able to find anything out until tomorrow. Beautiful...
Had a new one less than 5k ago. Good idea though. That’d explain loss of power but the plummeting fuel mileage is more worrisome. Turbo also sounds a bit different. Could be restricted air cleaner or maybe turbo? Getting back to some civilization so I bet I can get whatever it is addressed.
We’re approaching Whitehorse, YT tonight. Truck is running fine but mpgs have been dropping and seems to have less power...but I could be imagining things. Trip mpg has dropped from around 11.5 for the first 1000 to around 9.5 total. I’m suspicious of my dpf. Anyone have exhaust or diesel shop...
One last thing...some roads aren’t beefcake sized.
But where there’s a boy with a hacksaw there’s a way
Mom was less than thrilled about this turn of events...
Been away from WiFi a few days but seen a lot of beautiful country. The drive from Dawson Creek to Ft. Nelson is pretty monotonous, but starting at Ft. Nelson it gets pretty amazing. You have to go through lots and lots of this before the fun stuff:
Ft. Nelson has a great visitor center and...
Today we spent most the day taking advantage of being in a biggish town to run a bunch of errands. I love oil field towns. So much interesting machinery and hard working people. I’m sure they have their down sides but you can get everything industrial or medium duty truck related. (except for a...
Installed these bad boys just now. After I went to the truck wash and cleaned all the mud off from last night, but before I went down the equally muddy road to tonight’s camp spot [emoji17]
Well...the lie-o-meter on the dash says 10.9 for the trip so far. Was 11.7 until the Rockies. I think it’s close to actual as it doesn’t know of the overdrive of the tires and it overestimated before. Also went through a tank of Def in just a tank and a half of gas going through the Rockies so...
Thanks. I bought the wheels from a military surplus place and the tires are off eBay from a place in Virginia. Forget the name but it was something patriotic and they have a brick and mortar store and we’re super to deal with.
Composting Toilet Update
So several asked for updates on the homemade composting toilet. I have to say I am really, really pleased with it!
It has not been without its learning curve but I’m a fan. The first issue we had was when somebody put the lid back on without making sure the funnel...
I’ll try and do a bit more of a travel log now that we are well on our way. Banff and Jasper were beautiful, though extremely crowded on a weekend in late July. If you have the option I’d try and hit it during the week.
Our first and last days were overcast and drizzly which made seeing...
Boys like being celebrities...my youngest walks around telling people they can take a picture of our truck if they want. Doesn’t matter if they have a camera out or not...he’s just sure everyone needs a pic [emoji15] We might need to work on tact and humility with this one...
BTW...no...
We’ve made it to Canada! Spent a night in Northern Idaho at this spot:
Tonight we are boondocking outside Cranbrook BC.
So far very pleased with how it is working!
I’ve heard varying reports on whether they are the same. I would assume so as well. Never heard back from Hutchinson, but it’s holding pressure fine and I bought a caulk tube of rtv for the tool kit Incase I need to make my own. I’ll get the right part when we get home.
