BeefCake's build...a roll your own Earthroamerish family expo rig

The gray bin looking thing is the top of a garbage can. I wanted something that would bend around the bucket and milk jug and hold them snugly without fasteners. This setup works well for that. The lid is just 1/2” plywood that’s primed and painted. The five gallon bucket goes at the back and...

Well...so far the toilet is working fine. But that’s not really fair as it’s just sitting in the barn and only my boys have made deposits so far [emoji15]. I’ll report back on the toilet after the trip but here’s my guess: I think it will work but won’t have the fit and finish of one of the mass...

Next up is figuring out the bathroom. I finally settled on ordering a 24x32” shower pan and will be making it a dry bath. I promised myself I’d just order an airhead composting toilet but I just couldn’t do it. I’m too cheap. So off to the interwebs and Home Depot I went. I decided to make a...

Well after being mia for a few months I finally am back to working on the camper. Good thing too because we are leaving in it July 15th for a 5k mike trip [emoji848] Today I finally got the back of the box closed in. I’m reusing the back flip out bed from the trailer. I also was able to run...

Thanks! I’ve been working two jobs for the past two months (gotta pay for the habit somehow ?) but will be getting back to this in the next week. Tentative departure date is still mid-July so I better get on it ;-)

I love seeing how much you use your truck for fun! Aside from full timers....I think you use yours more than any others I've seen :-) Good work!

Got stuck for the first time today :-). Helping my brother get a couple yards of rock down a steep, narrow, loose gravel road. Pics never do off camber, steel situations justice... This is after pushing it up with the excavator a bit. Gravel was so loose that I just dug big holes. It’s...

Yup...you are indeed correct! I guess I just hadn’t seen them inflated or something. I’m using the same bag just taller. Seems to work so far. It is tight (.5”) of clearance in a couple spots so I’ll monitor those carefully. I plan to carry a spare bag on big trips as well. Having a bag suddenly...

wow...those are short and squatty bags! The dodges use something different. For cutting stuff out...you might sniff around for a laser cutter. We have one here local that does stuff amazingly cheap. If I wasn't always in such a hurry its what I would definitely do. They can cut it for...

I don’t believe in derailed threads...it’s all part of the process. I use this forum for research mostly so I welcome any and all data sources to chime in. Makes it easier for future people to understand how we got to the special blend of crazy that we are :-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yeah. I went at it from the other direction and just looked at load ratings in the firestone catalog and the bag I used was the only 9.1” diameter one that on paper carried the load. But something is off in real life...I imagine that’s what kelderman figured out.

I just don’t get how they achieve the load numbers with that bag. It’s spec sheet says it’s rated for 2700lbs at 90psi...maybe it can go higher but I thought I read in the design guide or somewhere not to run them over 100. That doesn’t leave much room for error on our trucks. But kelderman has...

Yeah I’m curious about the anti anti sway bar too :-) Front bags: W01-358-5712 Rear bags: W01-358-5311 I think the rear bag is the bag that kelderman uses on the front. It’s the same but shorter (ride height of 8 vs 13 I think). If your truck has the shock on the exterior of the spring so you...

Yup. I got the dual channel gauge and switches. Right now one switch runs the fronts and one does the rears. Several folks have suggested the four channel automatic systems but this was more wallet friendly and seems fairly basic which I like. We’ll see how it works after I get some more time...

Got the air suspension done. The ride is much improved from before. I used a taller bag than the kelderman folks as it appeared from the tech data sheets that I’d need it for load and lower spring rate. By my calculations it looked like I’d need about 95 psi in the front bag to get a ride...
