The problem I found with the diode isolator was it never allowed the batteries to get fully charged. Even with a 210 amp alternator I didn’t run enough hours in the day to charge the batteries back to 100%. I went through several sets of batteries lasting 12-15 months, both starting and house...
I’m using a Blue Sea 7610... I believe. It’s rated to handle 215 amps for 5 minutes. The house batteries usually only draw about 100 amps peak. Any time the alternator is pushing more than 120 amps, a large chunk of it is recharging the starting batteries (which doesn’t go through the relay)...
Still have the power disconnect. The inverter is wired directly to the batteries. The disconnect solenoids draw too much power to want them powered up when not needed.
I’d go with Boss Airbags that can be run with zero pressure. The kits for my Fj40 fit in place of bump stops over the axle. They wouldn’t fit with my Disc brake conversion. I’m happy with the AIRide bags I have but feel the Boss are a better design.
I’d mount them inboard of the springs and...
I have found that the ACR doesn’t like to charge the house batteries if the voltage differential is too great. In those instances I’ve hit a manual switch to temporarily jump the house batteries to the starting batteries. I’ve only needed to do this a couple times for a few seconds, but I’m sure...
Easy to do. I found the starting batteries needed to be connected to the alternator and the house batteries to the other terminal. I’ve not added new resettable breakers but they would be a good idea. The ‘original’ Ambulance wiring is 1 or larger wiring.
Given the alternator can put out 210...
Good find. Most have 2” of fibreglass insulation. The standards they are built to are met by all the manufacturers.
I’m not an expert but am getting it figured out after 5 years ;)
I’ve got a 12/‘96. I know the dash changed a bit, but the panel covering the evaporator is easy to access front the passenger foot well. Likely the drain mentioned above... unless you have another random leak.
I agree with @Abitibi. I cut a hole part way through the wall part way down the wall. No surprises to be found.
I’d likely position it so I’d only need to cut through one ‘stud’, and horizontally brace the opening. Bolt through would be adequate... although having it welded wouldn’t break the...
Hat's off to U-Joint Off Road.
I'm always disappointed to see vendors who don't come through for their customers... I feel confident that Chris and his crew wouldn't. If they'd do this for a random joe, I'm sure they'd go even further for their own clients.
As much as manufacturers claim they are good for xxx,xxx miles... they are often well past their prime before the service interval. When I changed mine in my youngest car I noticed a big difference. Next time I’ll change them at 1/2 the service interval... I’m sure it’ll pay off in improved mpg...
The one thought that comes to mind is if the 6 aluminum brackets bolted to plywood will be strong enough to stand the test of time. I realize your deck is quite light, but I am used to seeing the box mounts on theyttt bottom of mine that are 1/2”x3” flat stock welded onto 2.5” channel that is at...
Easy solution... sell the spare Jeeps ;) you don’t want spares anyway. Unless you are worried they will break down.
The van looks decent, but at least from the pictures the axle spacing looks off. The front wheels are too close to the back of the wheel openings. The rear wheels also look tight...
All very good points to consider.
If you’re considering doing this, be sure to put some miles on the truck chassis/model you plan to use. A couple years back I drove a newer F350, leaf sprung, 4X4, crew cab.... it sucked. I’ve driven 20 tone commercial trucks that rode and handled better. It...
I’ve not ridden since I got taken out in 2002. I’d mostly use something like that to run around locally at home... or near where I camped. Even at a bargain price, I don’t know it would be worth it.
If someone has really good fraud protection on their credit card, what’s there to loose?
If it...
It’ll always be a compromise. We each have to decide what works for us.
As for noise and oil... I always changed my Yamaha Maxim oil every 2500 km. It ran late one time, however since I was running synthetic and recommended interval was 5K I didn’t worry about it. When I did change it I was...
Or thoughts about laser rust removal... it’d be so much easier than sandblasting if it isn’t a scam.
