    Warning re Jackery product quality/design

I was pointing out that UN 38.3 is only concerned with the batteries not creating a problem in transport. That some of the standards carry over into the product itself is a bonus. The standard doesn't care if the product is functional after testing only that the batteries were not compromised...

    Warning re Jackery product quality/design

UN 38.3 (similar to DOT HMR; 49 C.F.R., Parts 171-180) are for batteries only and in their shipping packaging. So unless you use your device in its shipping box not much help. Better standards to check that deal with the product (in the US) are: - ANSI/NEMA C18 - UL 1642 - UL 2595 and...

    Campsite scalping

Unfortunately Frenchie, your solution is too logical and doesn't provide enough opportunities for graft. The preferred (political) solution must provide an ongoing cash stream to politicians and their cronies. So, you 'sell' the concession to a corporation who will 'improve' and tailor the...

    Campsite scalping

The problem: - Drive up FCFS favors locals and people with money. - Computerized registration FCFS favors computer savvy people/companies. A young family in the midwest on a limited budget has little chance of showing their children Yellowstone/Tetons/Glacier, et.al. I don't know what the...

2022 Ford F-150 Lightning Electric Truck

A 5 1/2 foot bed won't do it for a lot of us that use the truck for our job. Sooner or later truck makers are going to actually have to make trucks for working stiffs, not just multi-purpose commuter vehicles. I can't put a third of my camper in the frunk. Nor the back axle of my 4-wheeler...

2022 Ford F-150 Lightning Electric Truck

How is loosing 2 1/2 ft of bed and gaining a frunk more storage? It works if you are using your truck as a car. If you are using your truck as a truck the tradeoff sucks.

2022 Ford F-150 Lightning Electric Truck

On my wish list would be moving the cab forward and give me a useful bed. I don't need a frunk or seating for 4, but do need an 8' bed. I'll start getting interested in e-pickups when I see contractors hauling around their construction trailers in the winter.

    Must Have 12v Accessories

Must have: - multiple USB ports. - couple of 12V cigar plug receptacles. - 12V LED lights. - 12V fans - one that moves a lot of air and one that sips power. For the rest it depends on when/where/how long you are going to be out, and personal preferences. I am traveling for 4 - 8 weeks at...

Its not that I want the camper to twist with the truck, its that I don't know of an uncomplicated way to prevent it. Unless I can come up with a mounting system that will hold my camper rigid in 3 planes while allowing rotational freedom when the truck twists the camper will twist too. Since...

Frame flex is a reason I do not like Torklift, et.al. I want my camper to move with the bed, not a point cantilevered a foot or more out from the frame (motions aren't the same). Reinforcing the attachment on the truck bed is not difficult.

Rotopax / Fuelpax expansion in the sun

Liquid gas expands when hot but does not compress. So if overfilled, liquid gas will expand and compress the smaller volume of vapor to a higher pressure, beyond safe limits. Eventually something will give. That is the reason manufacturers mold a 'do not fill above this line' on their plastic...

    4WC - Overrated and overpriced

In a micro sense each of us have our own valuation system. I personally think everything in the 'recreation' category is overpriced. In the macro sense it is the market that determines value and rating: - if there are more 4WC for sale than buyers they are overpriced. - i there are more...

    4WC - Overrated and overpriced

Both FWC and ATC have an 18 month wait for a new camper - so they are not overpriced. Overrated? In what way? My Grandby is 44 years old, structurally sound, weathertight, light weight, and comfortable for me. That gives it a high rating from me.

    Portable camp fire grates...?

I just carry a homemade 18" square grate made out of 1/8" steel rod. Easy to prop up inside a fire ring with rocks or logs to create air space and build the fire on top.

    Trailer mounted winch?

How strong is the connection between the trailer and truck? I was taught to never use the hitch ball as an anchor for winching.

Cooling for Lithium battery and chargers in tongue box?

Have you measured how hot the tongue box get when sitting out in the sun? I'd also measure how much reduction I get by shading/air flow before adding expensive batteries. Fan(s) blowing out should be sufficient (with passive air intake). Thermal switches are cheap; no need to guess at...

Will any of the Garmins have better GPS than phone?

I would wager a guess that the paranoid types at the pentagon, CIA, NSA have a way to limit the usage of GPS satellites when they think it is needed.

Vehicle Modding Is Dead In the European Union; Now What?

Fact is Henry Ford loved electric cars: he bought Detroit Electric cars for his family. When he chose ICE battery, battery charging technology, and fuel distribution were the deciding factors - not marketing. As to racing: I have witnessed an electric 'top fuel' dragster go down the track; not...

Vehicle Modding Is Dead In the European Union; Now What?

I thank you for your generous offer but I just cannot give the time your efforts would require. My current position is that I will start to take anthropogenic climate change seriously when I see our leaders take it serious in their public and personal lives. I heartily agree with your no wars...
