    ExploringNH's 2002 4Runner build-up thread

More photos of the rear bumper and its build up for those who asked: http://forums.exploringnh.com/showpost.php?p=67483&postcount=2 The rear gate and tire carrier was built to not fail. On the far left, you can see the hinge. The center of the gate slides over a locking nub and onto the top of...

Possible trail closure in NH - We need help!

A local snowmobile club has sent a request to the town to close a local trail. The item is on the agenda to be discussed at the next town meeting. We will have representatives at the meeting, but we are requesting you to voice your concerns before the meeting. This trail is used by all...

Warn PowerPlant Dual Force HD on Tahoe - enough power?

I think you would be fine. Get a snatch block and you should be all set. If its a great deal, chances are probably good that you can resell it if you dont like it and not take a loss. Edit: Tahoe GVWR is about 6900lbs. '96 Toyota Land Cruiser is about 6400lbs GVWR. Ive been in the field with...

    Another 02 4Runner build thread!

I somehow lost track of this thread and the past few updates. Front bumper looks agressive. The lift and tires look great. It looks like you need to get an alignment now though. :sombrero: The AndyMod, in essence, is a switch that breaks the fuild pressure switch to disable TRAC/ABS. So, you...

Are you taking about the grill in between the headlights with the Toyota logo in it? If so, that's completely stock. Thanks everyone. I hope to make more updates soon, with a lot more pics.

    ExploringNH's 2002 4Runner build-up thread

I have no plans to go SAS, so IFS it is. The front locker will mostly be used for snow, and not hard rock crawling. Ive blown apart the front before, so it wont be anything new if it does happen. :sombrero: Im in northern NH often. I need to find some good trails way up north though. I have a...

    2001 4x4 4runner build. At Molasses pace

I dont know if this is hijacking the thread or not, and sorry if it is, but I always hear about people having trouble taking the tire down and wanted to share my tip. To get the tire up on the roof, Stand directly behind the truck. Take the tire and lift it up so that it is vertical on your...

Seeking Recommendations on Roof Rack Brands

The Surco is lightweight and looks great. I used custom mounts on mine to get it to sit lower. The rack is a bit flimsy out of the box, and after 2 years of use, all of the joints on mine are loose. Its assembled with rivets and they have all loosened up after a lot of vibrating around. The...

    2001 4x4 4runner build. At Molasses pace

I agree. I had a 33" tire up on the roof rack for a long time. I'm pretty well weighted down with armor/bumpers and it was very tippy compared to not having it up there. I don't think Ill be putting anything up there unless its for a long trip where wheeling isn't likely to happen.

    ExploringNH's 2002 4Runner build-up thread

No new pictures yet. Things moved a bit slower than anticipated. I didnt plan for the holidays taking up time. At any rate, the next round of mods is here: Viair 450C on-board air system 4.88 Front diff with ARB air locker 4.88 Rear diff with E-locker (not shown) Im excited. Combine this with...

    Inexpensive GPS

Works just fine inside a car, even the FJs with the near vertical windshield. I dont think it comes with it, but you can buy a "travel kit" that comes with the car mount, charger, and maybe a couple other small things. I just picked up the new PN-40 for myself and love it for offroad type travel.

    Inexpensive GPS

I dont have any experience with the two listed, but I would check out the Delorme PN-20. They just released the PN-40 and the price dropped drastically on the old model. You can find them for $150 on Amazon with free shipping. Pretty nice price considering less than a year ago they were over...

    CYi5's '99 4Runner Buildup

The bar is 1.5" x .120 wall DOM tube. There was no damage to the frame or brackets. The good thing is that the bar is adjustable. A few more cranks out to compensate for the bend and its the right length again. Just so Im not hijacking the thread here...I would recommend against a T-Max winch...

    CYi5's '99 4Runner Buildup

Looks good. I like the wheels. I second the opinion of the "wishing I didnt get the adjustable track bar". Also, they arent as sturdy as they seem.

    Trans New Hampshire Expedition 2008

No, I didnt. Ive been too busy lately to sit down and do it. The gps tracks were all lost. luckily I have my notes and paper maps from the trip, and a lot of the roads I just know by memory. Ill be doing it this winter at some point, but in the meantime, if you are planning a trip, feel free to...

    ExploringNH's 2002 4Runner build-up thread

I dont have any pics of it anymore. I used to, but they were lost in a hosting move. Im going to have more pics up soon, and Ill try to remember to take some of the inside. Its a pretty simple setup. 2x12s lengthwise, with 3 1/2" MDF boards on top, all carpeted. Each can be pulled up...

    Kennesaw Mountain - Rear Bumpers

The Shrockworks bumper is a very nice piece of metal, from first hand experience. I wouldnt hesitate to pay the price for one, if I were ever in the market for a front bumper again. If you have someone local that does custom fabrication, get together a few ideas and talk to them. Not only does...

    Kennesaw Mountain - Rear Bumpers

Ive heard very bad things about them. I almost ordered from there before I did my rear bumper, as they were one of the only places that sold a decent rear bumper for a reasonable price. Do a search on them before buying. I did and it prompted me to send an email asking a few direct questions...

    Another 02 4Runner build thread!

In the meantime, you can always just unplug the gray connector on the front/side of the brake reservoir under the hood. That will disable ABS, Trac, and VSC all at once. It really does make a huge difference off-road.
